Kids are 11 and 16 and we have a hard time even letting them walk 2 blocks to McDonalds b/c they have to cross 10th and red lights are apparently optional. 16yo has started driving and that’s a whole other level of anxiety about other drivers!

Nothing like trying to figure out where your kid will go to middle school when the state legislature's just trying to make the whole district disappear. FUN TIMES.

Years ago there was some thought about putting the archives building there. Not sure what scuttled that idea.

Just posting Article 8 of the Indiana constitution about how the legislature has a duty to provide for a system of common schools, "equally open to all." Not just those who make stats look good, or who don't need additional support, or who only speak English, or who are only US citizens, or or or...

Speaking as one of @jesseforindy.bsky.social’s constituents, it’s been refreshing to have a rep that actually gives a damn about me and my neighborhood. I’m angry about this but unsurprised.
Forgive the lack of alt text. I'll amend this later. Writing from the floor of the Council.

Exactly! And people don’t always think about who is paying for it. I’d like to think they’d be astonished if they knew how much $ was in our local school board race.

And then one commissioner talked about the education “market” & another about choice for all, & all I could think about was the relentless arrival of glossy full color mailers from their campaigns. We’ll see who they really answer to, but we all know where the $ is.

And it’s not even February. I have only so much outrage to go around.

Apparently the board meeting last night lasted for four hours. I am simultaneously incensed and exhausted.

Another day, yet another strongly worded message to the school board. Too bad it feels useless.

A reminder not to overlook informants! Research revealed my 2x-great-grandpa's siblings also came to the US from Sweden, but I'd never heard about them here. Charles (Carl) died in Utah, unmarried. The informant on his death cert? One of his nieces in Chicago, my grandma's aunt. #genealogy
