One of my hospice patients told me that on the ship that took him to fight in WWII he hated to sleep below bc it smelled. So he crept on deck & slept on bags of cargo. He said there were more stars than black. He said they reflected off the water. He said it was dazzling.

If you’d like even more people to see these lovingly hand-curated postcards and their messages, remember: likes are lovely but re-posting costs nothing and spreads the thing like a benign virus. Or something.

My first huge crush and this video still gives me tingles. I was very pleased with myself for having already bought Young Parisians from a bargain bin at the local record store on Smash Hits’ recommendation before Ant Music became a hit.
Adam Ant is 71 today. Hard to emphasise how seismic this was in playgrounds across the country in 1980. For a period he was as big as any act has been. Was he the perfect pop star? I think so. It couldn't last but if you were there you'll never forget it.

Petition for more jazz couple’s choice routines. Such crowd pleasers, it’s daft not to. When the only choices were street, jazz or contemporary we got more interesting couple‘s choice routines. But I do love the introduction of dances from other cultures to the Strictly floor.
Absolutely blown away by this🧠🤯 Can't stop watching 🔥

Out of this world choreography by Katya & impeccable delivery by Lewis.

Magical and mesmeric 40/40. Will go down as one of the all time Strictly performances.

Finally finished the ceiling - second coat today. Do painters and decorators have one massive Popeye arm? Asking for someone who welded an overhead roller for 15 hours this weekend. (Restorative yoga and wearing a heated blanket over my shoulders last night for the mobility win.) #HypermobileLife
Today I am mostly varnishing a beamed ceiling. I’m too old for this shite. If I can move either my neck or shoulders tomorrow morning it will be a miracle. #GenZGrumble

Bizarre and parochial logic from the Royal Family. They think now we’ll stop thinking of Andrew as Royal and that solves the problem. Because the only problem they see is how it all reflects on them. Stripping his titles away hasn’t changed anything. He’s still guilty and they are still complicit.

Day 7. Nearly finished with the outside. The inside, not so much. Oh, and we decided to paint the inside of the window frames white and the outside black and the point where they meet is… not fun.

FUMING #GGBO. You can’t put through the person that was competent in the technical but failed at the core element of the showstopper. AND the person who curdled their set custard in the technical and also failed at the core element of the showstopper.

Where do BBC Maestro think people write novels? (What they mean is you can do their novel writing course from your sofa. Such imprecision in their language isn‘t selling me the course, let me tell you.)

At the other end of the garden, the final phase: log cabin is up. Much cheaper than a swanky oven-ready garden room but let me tell you, untreated timber is NEEDY. Nearly a week later and we’ve only just finished treating and priming. Painting this week. AT LAST. (Reposted minus typos)

Seydou Keïta.

He was given a Kodak Brownie Flash by his uncle in 1935, and Keïta spent the following years teaching himself the technicalities of photography and eventually opened an outdoor studio in 1948 in Bamako Koura.

My proposal would be for up to 15 or so commissioned essays/advice in book form from various minority and marginalised "movers and shakers", covering topics from technique to industry experience. With room for an open submission period, of course. And an appendix for further reading and resources.
I'd really love to see a writing guide (and industry advice) written from a minority and marginalised perspective tbh. I imagine it would look wildly different. And be helpful to a lot of folks out there who tend to get regurgitated guidance based entirely on an unequal and exclusionary experience.

Our dog was groomed recently when we had people working in the house. They asked ‘Who’s this one then?’ when he was shorn. Unrecognisable.
Before and after photos of Nutmeg. There’s a whole different dog inside that ball of fluff.

Meeting yesterday with Brianna Ghey's mother Esther - and pupils at Brianna's former school - was a powerful reminder of why controls on social media and smartphone use in schools is so important for children, teachers and parents. (1/2)
