Hello all I'm Ruby, I'm a designer, technologist, and artist. I currently design, write code, and prototype for ACMI, and I have mostly generative digital art practice. I enjoy weird gender™️ and sci-fi stories as well as puzzle games. Felathea Aeortis In Sofia (FFXIV)

I genuinely think that trans people need to fight a bigger fight about research ethics governing our treatment. "Trans rights are human rights" is vague.
No research without consent is specific.

It's right that trans people should be able to refuse to be subjects in research being conducted with an aim of reducing their options in life, reducing their comfort and wellbeing.

How many trans people have the BBC had on this week discussing the BBC's pro-trans bias?
Zero.

Would just like to point out that Anna Waehre, the researcher here mentioned as guilty of grievous research ethics violations targeting trans minors was a panelist in a SEGM conference last year with a large number of other abuse apologists.

hopefully 'launching' this little side project this week.
- search for a feature to find out about support
- add a calendar reminder
- lists what's "recently available" in the newly/widely available sections for the last week and what's coming up in the next month
any other features I've missed?

A kind person just reminded me this video exists.
10 years ago I recorded a 4 minute video on why women leave the tech industry.
10 years later, I still stand by everything I said, and I’m so frustrated at how little the working environment has changed.

I wish more people understood on a fundamental level, how much of a bullshit beat up this whole thing is.
The International Olympic Committee is set to ban trans and intersex women from competition. This is despite the fact that for 20 years, the IOC has allowed trans athletes to compete and only 1 has ever competed and none have ever won a medal.

For years, advertising has been how Stereogum made money to pay its writers. While we made progress moving away from that model, Google AI search has decimated the business almost overnight. Today we relaunch with a greater focus on subscription. We’d love your support: stereogum.com/2478838/ster...

This is not something that should be treated as common or shrugged off, just because it's a plague we've been beset by for a couple of years now

I don’t think you can pay someone to grind out books for you so you have a higher reading level.

Admittedly these are usually sort of cringe, but I will own being a little cringe for a bit because a lot of IRL friends have said they remind me of a few select characters and I want to see if this tracks for internet friends tbh.

This is why the social media ban is absolutely going to get queer kids killed, especially in rural areas.
In case cishet people don't realize: There aren't a lot of queer people around in most social settings, and we spend a lot of time finding each other, talking to each other, seeking each other out! Brianna herself was making online content for other queer kids!
We kind of need each other!

This is what kills me. If Esther Ghey wants to talk about the dangers of kids being online too much, she can talk about radicalization, about bigotry, about the dehumanizing ideas of trans people Brianna's killers were exposed to.
She doesn't, she talks exclusively about Brianna's social media use.

putting her phone in a pouch would have made her killers less transphobic and violent?
Phones did not murder Brianna Ghey in cold blood.

God I can’t stand true crime, dealing with the legal system is a miserable enough process as it is, adding the voyeurism on top of it really makes me feel sick. Are fictional courtroom dramas not enough?!?!

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)
They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.
