Two popular ideas about academic research. Either in a white coat, looking down a microscope, or at the top of library steps lost in thought poring over an ancient hardback. Reality. Blinking at a screen, trying to come up with a decent string of words to search for a missing PDF.

Dear #MedSky,

Please never tell a patient to "stop crying."

Many people CAN'T stop crying, even if they want to. It's very dismissive of their very real emotions.

ESPECIALLY don't tell them not to cry because it makes YOU uncomfortable. YOU'RE supposed to take care of THEM, not the reverse.

just in case anyone might know someone, I'm looking to talk to a psychiatrist or expert in the field of anxiety who's comfortable being quoted for an essay I'm doing. specifically, I'm interested in talking about how things have changed over time about how we think about anxiety or diagnose it

Know someone who’s dreading 2025? Please don’t wait for them to reach out. Instead ‘reach in’ to them. It may be hard to do, but also the most important conversation for both of you. Asking if they’ve seen the StayingSafe.net website is a gentle way to introduce a #SafetyPlan to help them stay safer

"It’s not a dead internet... merely damned by corporate greed, indolence, and indifference. Silicon Valley’s giants no longer compete and no longer innovate; instead they cut costs, boost profit margins, and block out competitors in order to maintain consumer habit and market dominance."
It's the end of the internet as we know it—and I feel fine
Maybe this was the last year of the usable web. If so, blame corporate greed.

Looking for a well-written book with great characters, perhaps people on the edge types, funny, thought provoking and with an ending that at least leaves you satisfied.

Protagonist was butchered at the end of the last book and I need lifting, please. 🙏

"So, as the paper claims, the estimated actual exposure from [black] kitchen utensils of 34,700 [ng/day] is more than 80 per cent of the EPA limit of 42,000.

That sounds bad. But 60 times 7,000 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 42,000. It is 𝟰𝟮𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬... The estimated exposure is not even a tenth of the reference dose" 🧮🤦🏽‍♂️

I hope no one finds it bothersome that I share posts outside of my specific field of specialisation.

I always felt out of place when attendings (and even even registrars/residents/speciality trainees) only talk about or show interest in their own specific fields.

Almost feeling like I'm "wrong".
