What follows is a version of a short thread I posted some time ago on the bad place.
I really believe it gets at something important that I've never seen discussed anywhere. It's simply this: REGARDLESS of what Republicans *say*, there's a powerful reason for them to WANT big deficits. Follow along…

Like most things about human metabolism, it's a complicated story, but one very interesting takeaway is that ketogenic diets *might* combat and even reverse Alzheimer's.

Texas frackers live and die on the oil price. If Trump makes good on his promise to drive prices down with oil stolen from Venezuela, they could be decimated. Fossil fuels are the heart of the state’s economy.

Trump wants cheaper oil. Texas could pay a price.
A possible flood of South American oil would hinder the state’s production of fuel, some experts say, making it hard to break even on costs.

Trump was never going to stop at Mark Kelly, Jerome Powell, Letitia James, or me.

Targeting Minnesota officials is just Trump’s latest abuse of the DOJ, and his most recent attempt to silence and intimidate those who stand up to him. 🧵

Greenland’s prime minister has warned residents to prepare for the possibility of a U.S. invasion. It’s surreal to even be here. Not only is Trump continuing to tear at the fabric of our own country, but now this reckless and imperial-style rhetoric is spilling outward everywhere.

Greenland’s prime minister said the Arctic island’s population and its authorities need to start preparing for a possible military invasion, even as it remains an unlikely scenario, as President Donal...

As more countries start moving away from the U.S. dollar, this puts upward pressure on interest rates. But Trump needs *low* rates to maintain the illusion that his economy is doing well. If he forces them down, inflation will soar.

Stumbled across this 2014 piece by one of my very favorite observers, Thomas Frank.
He decries the rampaging inequality that was eating the country back then, as evidenced by the boom in McMansions.
Of course, it's gotten much worse since then.
Well worth a look: www.salon.com/2014/04/13/l...

Cong Dems cannot make this happen. But they should be calling for it.
-The world's most important alliance is being destroyed by one mentally disturbed man.
-That man outright says there is *no* limit on his power except his own "morality"[sic]. Including to make war

Which side are we on?
The 25th Amendment must be invoked by the cabinet. I’m all for pressuring them. Congressional Dems should lead the charge. Not on Bluesky or Threads. Let’s do it.
Invoke the 25th Amendment.

China's population crash is gathering speed.
Last year, the country had the fewest births (7.9M) and the most deaths (11.3M) ever.
Since they eliminated the "one child" rule 10 years ago, births have *fallen* by more than half.
Question is: why?

Despite the government’s best efforts, China’s birth rate just hit a new low
Deaths in the nation, meanwhile, have never been higher in the 21st century....
