Just a proud Canadian guy trying to understand the world a little more each day

Canadians, this won't be easy, but the US has given us a wake-up call. We cannot allow our country to be reliant on any country the way we are on the US. We need the freedom to run our country as we decide, that can't happen when another country can hold our wellbeing hostage to their demands.

This summer, Canada’s tourism sector did more business than ever before — by welcoming the world and being our own best customer.

More good news: we just renewed the Canada Strong Pass for the holidays and summer 2026 — so it’s more affordable to explore our incredible country.

Kalispell Montana wants Canadian visitors to come back. Kalispell is in Flathead County, that voted 66% for Trump. There are plenty of beautiful towns and parks in that area on the Canadian side of the border, Canadians should holiday on the Canadian side of the border.

Someday there will be a reckoning for the serial killings that the US government is engaged in on the oceans. Another admin should not refuse to extradite indicted officials to Intl Criminal Courts and senior military officers “just following orders” should not be exempted.

We’re launching free trade negotiations with Thailand.

This is our second-largest trading partner in Southeast Asia — and Prime Minister Charnvirakul and I want to unlock even more opportunities for our workers and businesses.

At the ASEAN Summit to accelerate progress on the Canada-ASEAN free trade agreement and unlock new markets for Canada
Southeast Asia is a $5 trillion economy. New partnerships here represent massive opportunities for our workers and businesses — and we’re here to seize them #cdnpoli

The ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur is shaping up to have a positive outcome for Canada.

Mark Carney’s message landed clearly:

Canada is here as a reliable, rules-based partner — steady in a world full of uncertainty.

Rule of Law Alert: Trump’s authority for country-specific tariffs comes from the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which doesn’t mention tariffs—but does require a national emergency.

An ad showing that Reagan opposed tariffs surely is not a national emergency. (It may be a personal one)

Mark Carney’s message last night was simple, honest, and necessary.
Canada’s future depends on independence — not isolation — from the United States. We’re diversifying trade, investing in our own capacity, and rebuilding what decades of outsourcing hollowed out.

Our relationship with the U.S. is forever changed. Thankfully we have a PM like Carney at a time like this, it will take strong policy leadership and an excellent political sense to lead our country out of our economic and security dependence on the U.S.
Carney: But this decades-long process of an ever-closer economic relationship with the United States is now over. And as a consequence, many of our former strengths as a country—more particularly, our economic strengths based on close ties to America—have now become our vulnerabilities… #cdnpoli
