"I realized then I had no privacy left for them to invade."

Alistair Kitchen, an Australian reporter, recounts his detention and interrogation on the U.S. border. It's really well written and truly harrowing.

It's not quite as harmless to the scores of international students who have been living with this exact fear for over a year now, only to be dismissed by the institution administrations, their mental health providers, departments and faculty. We were not worrying for nothing.
It's obviously a harmless case compared to what someone like Mahmoud Khalil or Rumeysa Ozturk are going through, but it's the same obsession driving it: lock up, harass, and ultimately deport individuals for speech, in the country of the first amendment.

They’re going to try to make you feel insane for opposing this war. They’ll ignore protests and downplay any opposition. They’ll try to strongarm you into submission.

They did it with Iraq and they’ll do it again.

And then a few years later they’ll pretend they were with you all along.

The echoes are real—but this isn’t a rerun.

Naomi Klein calls it end times fascism:
It´s not just about reclaiming power, but about riding collapse like it’s prophecy.
They’re not planning for the future—they’re hoarding for the aftermath.
Destruction isn’t the cost. It’s the goal.

Hannah Arendt discusses this phenomenon of sympathetic elite allying themselves with the mob because they took delight in debasing the institutions that rejected them only to later be discarded before the atrocities start.
