'Emergence explains nothing and is bad science -
Life, consciousness and the cosmos are not “emergent”'
Scientists and philosophers have fallen for a seductive buzzword: “emergence.” | https://bit.ly/46MVPjM

But John Heil argues it’s time to drop the magic word and face the real challenge: uncovering, in concrete detail, how simple parts can give rise to complex wholes.

"We can exquisitely, spatially map and tell you where dark matter is … what it does … but we don’t know what it is. It’s akin to knowing everything about sand dunes: how they form, how they get reshaped … but not knowing what a grain of sand is made of."

There are at least 20 different types of water ice, and we're still learning new things about them. Space ice is probably the most abundant type of ice in the universe, and we thought it was amorphous until researchers discovered it contains crystals. 🧪⚛️ physicsworld.com/a/space-ice-...
Space ice reveals its secrets – Physics World
Simulations and experiments indicate that the low-density amorphous ice found on comets and icy moons is not, in fact, entirely amorphous

Anyone who tells you that sufficiently clever science can always find a way around fundamental limits is totally ignorant of the history of science. Discovering what's impossible is and always has been part of the scientific project. But Yud, Altman, Musk, Andreessen, etc., don't know this.
