I'll be returning to campus this fall as the inaugural Tony and Teddie Brown Associate Professor of Public Policy.

I am excited to have earned tenure at Duke and humbled to receive this specific endowed chair (more on that later).

I've been sitting on this news for a while now...

Once I saw a paper on condom use among bear-bear* couples that was indexed under the Animal Studies heading in PSYCinfo. Always test your filters, #MedLibs friends

*It was for a review on a gender & sexuality topic, so yeah. That kind of bear.
Just sent an e-mail to Embase Support Centre about a very strangely indexed paper... I'm used to funny 'mistakes', but this definitely gets the cake. Any other #medlibs ever seen something like this before?

It was extremely helpful to be able to cite their 2011 survey in my tenure and promotion materials--especially because I'm in an interdisciplinary department where people may not have a reference point for publishers/outlets.

You can help others by participating in the update!!

Really enjoyed getting to engage with Emily and @chloethurston.bsky.social's excellent new book on debt relief. I shared my thoughts on what we can learn from their work about the current mobilization around debt relief--from student loans to medical debt.

The #CFPB won billions for consumers w/its rulemaking and enforcement actions over the past 14 yrs. They are the only federal agency created to protect consumer (not bank) finances. Now the Trump administration is trying to stop that work from within.

This take is spot on. The CFPB is the only federal agency designed first and foremost to look out for consumers' finances. All the others were created to protect bank profits. We don't talk enough about how our under-investments in families can actually help drive women to the right.
These high childcare costs are pushing mothers not only out of the workforce but also--and maybe ironically--into political conservatism. Because moms pushed out of paid work often struggle with loss of identity. And because conservative Christian moms' groups often step in to fill that void. 1/🧵

Thoughtful take on potential consequences for the administrative state under Trump.

I'll add another: if the quality of public services declines, people may ignore/not recognize the intentional sabotage and decide that government is just ineffective, weakening support for future public investment.
New, from me: I've spent the last four years thinking about what happens to the federal government if Trump returns. So I am offering a few predictions about what happens next.
