‘the American dream’ has always puzzled me, the end goal being ‘get rich = get respect’ It’s a truly horrible way to live your life. Vacuous and devoid of meaning, and if you don’t accrue tonnes of money, you’re a failure in everyone’s eyes. Very sad indeed.
