Pro-democracy and pro-EU public protests have been ongoing for 140+ days in Georgia. Demonstrators block the main avenue in Tbilisi every day, while new and creative forms of civil resistance emerge almost daily. See my new article on why and what it means: www.ponarseurasia.org/georgias-ide...

This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

Georgian women are fighting on the front lines of these protests. Most of the ~26 activists arrested today are women.

This is Soviet history researcher Rusiko Kobakhidze—always contributing to the resistance, knowing better than anyone the threat we face.

Russia's leaders aren't even pretending to care about a peace deal with Ukraine, or the sovereignty of their neighboring states. Why stop at Soviet nostalgia? Putin could have come dressed as Ivan the Terrible.

In this post, I commend universities that filed amicus brief in AAUP case challenging speech-based deportations of foreign students, but also explain why this isn't adequate substitute for universities bringing a case of their own: reason.com/volokh/2025/...

My great burden in life is to tell my friends and loved ones how great the 3 Colors Trilogy is, how it's streaming on HBO Max, to send one of them the criterion 4K as a gift, and to have them all refuse to watch the movies anyway. I bear this burden grimly, but bear it I must

Trump was impeached in 2020 because he tried to blackmail Ukraine's President Zelenskyy. If enough Republican senators had the backbone to convict him then, he might have learned his lesson.

As Trump talks about making Canada the "51st state," perhaps you've been wondering:

Has the US tried to annex Canada before?
Why didn't the US annex Canada already?
What are the implications of Trump's talk now?
