4D chess move here is to use LaTeX but make it look like Word to communicate that you're the type of person who does not care about superficial signals (hence, Word) but simultaneously is so good at LaTeX that it's easier for them to use.
I am very late to this thread, but want to note this old paper from Andrew Gelman in which he explains a good reason to use LaTeX (like to PDF www.stat.columbia.edu/~gelman/rese...)
