Check out our new paper published from @britishecologicalsociety.org journal Ecology and Evolution led by Dr. Larry Clarfeld. We developed a highly accurate animal classification model using remote #camera data from multiple networks and designs: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
DeepFaune New England: A Species Classification Model for Trail Camera Images in Northeastern North America
The DeepFaune New England model classifies wildlife species in trail camera images, identifying 24 taxa from northeastern North America with high (97%) accuracy. The model was adapted from the DeepFa....

New paper! We show how #cameratraps can do more than track wildlife—they can also detect pathologies. A non-invasive, scalable way to monitor animal health & boost conservation 📸🌍💡 #OneHealth

Effect of proximity to ski slopes on nest predation risk of the Pyrenean Western Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus aquitanicus) - Journal of Ornithology
Mountain tourism has shown a strong increase over the last decades. One of the most important activities is skiing, which has a great economic impact on these traditionally less developed areas. Howev...

Bridging the implementation gap: From predator control to non-lethal impact-based intervention🌏

Through a co-designed experiment with practitioner & community engagement, this study evaluated the effects of diversionary feeding as a non-lethal strategy to reduce predation🧪

Check out my bluesky talk for #BOUatEOU.

We found that diversionary feeding is a suitable impact based tool to reduce conflicts between recovering predators (pine marten) and endangered ground nesting birds (cappercaillie) in Scottish Forests.

Beyond predator control, there are alternatives to increase capercaillie productivity. Here's an example from Scotland.

🚨 New publication 📝

Out today in the royal society proceedings B. We find that diversionary feeding boosts productivity of cappercaille from 0.82 to 1.90. Indicating that this impact based method can effectively reduce the influence of predation.
