LEGO presented their 400 dollar NCC 1701-D model and I cant lie, I am tempted.

Luckily I'd have nowhere to put it, so that saves me.

Ok, let's see if the community thing works on Bluesky.

Is there anyone I know in Stellenbosch already tonight (friday) for the CRP conference who would like to meet up for a drink and light dinner?

The 1st law of thermoacademics: the amount of urgent work to be done is constant.
The 2nd law of thermoacademics: the amount of work previously deemed urgent is ever increasing

Went for pool laps for the first time in like 3 months, while keeping my weight training up in between. Amazing how weights impact your ability to swim (positively). I have been swimming all my life, but never combined the two. I probably should!

Paper alert!

It's a study that had been in the making forever! We created polyHIPE particles in continuous flow with remarkable tunability and functionality. All plug and play, easy for everyone to build their own setup!

I suggest a multiplier for the age of the researcher and bonus points if the author list is all white and male
I’ve got an idea.

(Number of times a paper is cited/number of authors on a paper) x Impact Factor of the Journal the paper is published in = a metric that tells you how hard an author worked and how good their science is

Congrats to everyone who got a DP project funded today! Very well done!

Then also, my heart goes out to everyone who was hoping for good news today, but was disappointed. Hang in there, and keep doing awesome science!

Translation for last year PhD students: You want to watch the ARC webpage tomorrow to see who will be looking for postdocs in 2026
ARC says Discovery Projects outcomes will be tomorrow (Tuesday). Linkage Projects (2025, round 1) on Wed. Over past ~year, it's often been at about 11am (Canberra).

My bot will pick up the change to RMS & post immediately.

ARC should email outcomes to lead CIs, but might take an 1hr or so for DPs

Despite having been overseas for a conference, I managed to fit 6 gym sessions in the past 14 days. Today Im actually sore. Anyhow, it feels good to know that even if travel screws my calorie counting, my sports habit is unbroken.

I recently learned what rejection sensitivity dysphoria is, and holy forking shirtballs, does that make sense to me and explain many of my experiences.

Whenever you think you finally understand yourself, there is another layer that comes off.

Had a great time the last days at the Beilstein conference on future synthesis technologies. So much good science! Thanks again for the invitation and the organization, Martí, Anna and Luigi!

Thanks to all our speakers & participants for making the #BeilsteinShapingSynthesis2025 Symposium in Limburg an amazing event! Special thanks 🙏 to our scientific organizers Anna Slater
@annagslater.bsky.social & Luigi Vaccaro for assembling such an excellent program.

Julia Robinson spoke to Stuart Batten – Richard Robson's first PhD student to work on coordination polymers – and also had the pleasure of discussing the award-winning work behind this year's Nobel prize with none other than Nobel laureate Susumu Kitagawa.
How the pioneers of metal-organic frameworks won the Nobel prize
From wooden models to thousands and thousands of structures, Julia Robinson tells the story of how Richard Robson, Susumu Kitagawa and Omar Yaghi won the 2025 Nobel prize in chemistry

This is a significant “dumbing of a nation, just dig up dirt to sell instead” graph that is easily reversed and #Australia would reap the benefits. Australians invented wifi and were early designers of solar panels. We have really really inventive smart people that we SHOULD invest in. 1/

It is great honour to be this years recipient of the RACI HG Smith Memorial Award. Looking at the list of previous awardees, I am very humbled to be named among many heroes of Australian chemistry.

Thanks to my entire group for making all the wonderful research happening!

bless your, Jane Goodall. If humans overall would just be 5% of what she was, we would be in a much better place
Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

Given how scarce it is (and on sale immediately) makes me think im the only person who actually thinks this flavor combination works well.

Anyhow, happy find at the shops!
