🎵I've made my schemes
Line after line
Written my sentence
Experimentals so fine
NMR tables
I've made a few
I've had my share of plans scooped in my face
But I've come through (and I mean to go on, and on, and on, and on)
🎼
We write the patents, my friends
And we'll keep on writing 'til the end🎵

📄 We report a radical disconnection strategy that enables the direct, single-step conversion of α-amino acids into differentiated vicinal diamines via photocatalytic decarboxylation.

Broad scope, functional-group tolerant, and scalable in flow.

Alone in lab (this is why you don’t work alone) as a summer worker in a coatings factory.
Dropped (and broke) a 2L bottle of Freon-122
Grabbed towels to try and wipe up.
Freon vapor is heavier than air.
Realized this when I stood up and the room spun
Got out ASAP and let the hoods do their job
Introduce yourself with what almost killed you.

Check out our latest V2 on chemrxiv where we show you can catalyze PCET reactions using mild reagents below the thermodynamic limit of initial H• abstraction, make hard-to-access 2H-indazoles, and even skeletal edit! chemrxiv.org/engage/chemr...

For some excellent timeline cleanse follow my good friend Parag @parag.bsky.social
for some amazing astrophotography
As 2025 comes to an end, here are some of my favorite astrophotos that I was able to capture. These are from January:

Moon occultation of Mars
M81 and M82 from Ursa Major

A couple of comets made appearances in October. I could capture only Comet Lemon. Its tail kept changing very quickly and can be seen in these two photos taken over 2 days.

Just in time for the new year - we show that you can make either isomer of N-aryl pyrazole selectively from a single TDSO. We really believe in the power of these wacky heterocycles.

Paper out today with a transformation a colleague published >10y ago…it is referenced but the new paper has the EXACT same reagents etc - the only diff is a change in solvent and smaller scope.
Just poor referee/editor work
The same reaction (but missing a key mechanism step)
