In the last chapter of Alice’s memoir, “Year of the Tiger,” she wrote her own future obituary.

The wonderful “oracle, storyteller, cyborg, trouble-maker, activist, night owl” we loved so much closed it with:

“Enjoy all of Alice’s good shit, and may you create some good shit as well.”

So sad to hear of the passing of author and activist Alice Wong.
Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

I'm sitting in the sun re-reading Rachel Hartman's "In the Serpent's Wake." I love Hartman's world-building.

Watched the documentary Fiddler's Journey to the Big Screen. Poignantly told, and really put the massive undertaking and immense care taken into context. Also, it's unreal how even brief snippets from Fiddler on the Roof can give me goosebumps. So much fascinating info—worth a watch for sure!

I feel like we have the opportunity to turn David Lynch's quote into this moment's "Keep Calm and Carry On" and it's a far better rallying cry too.

I came across a band called Shred Kelly and yes, excellent hockey reference I will listen.

First track: banjo-driven thumping rock. Amazing, yes, thank you.

So I use transcription software as part of my job. I'm Canadian, and I'm usually interviewing Kiwis. My favourite thing it to see both accents result in hilarious muddles. Lately it's been better at not guessing words, and so I'm starting to really see the characteristics of the accents reflected.

I love Starling - some of my favourite poems in Starling I later saw into print when editing selections for the AUP New Poets series, others I have taught in class. These four poems from Starling are wonderful, surprising choices - which Starling poem would you choose?
the 4 editors pick a fave each from Starling - read and love today, and reread and relove over the weekend ⭐️

Cripes, so grateful for the fire crew. It's a battle in this wind. I heard the engine honking and looked outside to this.

Siouxsie took on an institution that failed to protect her and other academics from death threats, whilst doing fantastic #scicomm for the common good. She won against UOA. And is left with a house-size debt even after being awarded costs. Give a little back if you can 💚 🚨
At a time when academics are under sustained right-wing attack, Dr Siouxsie Wiles stood up to the neoliberal regime of university management and won, but it came at a cost. If you can, please consider supporting Siouxsie, one of the most courageous scholars I know.

I really want to go out and play baseball now, but I suspect I can no longer throw or catch a ball.

I used to be an okay hitter, but I suspect that's also off the cards.
