The M6.1 shallow #earthquake near Bigadic, Turkey, occurred on a normal fault system, possibly the Sindirgi-Sincanli Fault Zone. A similar event occurred near Simav in 2011 and generated significant damage around the epicenter. ⚒️🧪

Since 1950, 43 other earthquakes of magnitude 3+ have occurred within 250 km of today’s earthquake. In that time range, the M4.8 Tewksbury, New Jersey earthquake in 2024 was the largest.

Today’s quake is too far away to be an aftershock of the 2024 earthquake.
