AI has disproved Descartes’s Cogito Ergo Sum hypothesis: we now know that thought does not imply the existence of a soul. It’s going to take time to understand the implications of this revelation.

It’s going to be weird watching the Roberts court overturn every single executive power ruling they’ve made when a Democratic President takes office. Will Kavanaugh be outraged by their previous decisions?

“Ah, just one more thing, sir. You’re blowing up those boats, saying they’re filled with drugs headed for the US. But then you go and pardon the guy who brought in 400 tons of cocaine. That’s billions of doses. Help me understand that.”

While we’re all freaking out about today, consider that Trump also gets along well with Lula

It occurs to me that candidates running as Democratic Socialists have an advantage specifically because they are not viewed as part of the Democratic Party. Very few voters are reading Marx, and some don’t care what “Socialist” means, but they know old line Democrats don’t like it.

Another red line that was crossed in the Trump/Mamdani love fest was Trump’s praise for FDR and the New Deal. This probably means nothing to most Americans, but at The Heritage Foundation it’s high treason.

Zorhan Mamdani just said Israel committed genocide while standing next to Donald Trump, and Trump let the statement stand

Things I’d like to know:
- was this capitulation baked in the cake from the beginning? Smug analysts are pointing out that R’s would never extend ACA subsidies. So why choose this as a core issue?
- did Schumer orchestrate this? Clearly he’s at least incompetent, but did he support this privately?

Sanders: Let’s be clear… If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are going to see at least a doubling in their premiums… if resolution is passed tonight, we are on a path way to throw 15 million Americans off of medicaid and the affordable care act, 15 million.

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

The time to tigger a shutdown was the March CR. It was impressive that caucus was able to pull together now for a “make up” shutdown, but they had already missed the boat. It was still a mistake to cave right when they were drawing blood however.

"Democrats could have held the line on the shutdown, and spent weeks watching Trump’s approval ratings fall," writes @jonathanbchait.bsky.social
Instead, he argues, they're making a mistake by giving in:

It was very shrewd to base the ACA on a Republican plan that was Romney’s big accomplishment. This left Republicans with no where to go, after 15 years they still have no alternative.
