I was able to use the Aussie Bird Count as a discussion example for this week’s lecture on objectives and implementation. It was fitting to have 2 Plovers, some Welcome Swallows and a Common Myna outside the door.

Just ONE WEEK to go until the Aussie Bird Count kicks off! 🐦

From 20–26 Oct, Australians everywhere will spend 20 mins counting the birds!

One in six Aussie birds faces extinction – which means every bird counts!

Renewables dominate global new generation capacity. They are more than 90% of new generation globally.

Rapidly decreasing battery and solar costs mean that solar plus batteries can economically provide power 90% of the time in more and more places.

RE revolution is just starting.

Loved the FT piece today—so much untapped potential in home energy savings. Insulation, heat pumps, solar, and batteries work best together: insulation cuts costs and boosts comfort, heat pumps are super efficient, and solar plus batteries now pay for themselves. The future of home energy is bright!

Many AI models fail to recognise negation words such as “no” and “not”, which means they can’t easily distinguish between medical images labelled as showing a disease and images labelled as not showing the disease
