FontJit just graduated to v1.1.0! 🎓
You can now also tap into the loading with JavaScript, listening to promises and doing your computer programming based on how they resolve.
Still very lean at 743 bytes (minified and compressed, of course)

Hey, were we friends in the Twitter days?
I don't seem to get much Engagement™ here on Bluesky and I wonder if that's because the algorithm is shunning me, or because I only post occasionally (cause: little engagement!), or maybe simply because nobody likes me here :P
Anyway, wanna be friends?

I added a site-wide font size slider to the Wakamai Fondue bètà. It will change *all* font previews, even the ones that didn't have a font-size slider before!
wakamaifondue.com/beta/
Give it a spin and let me know what you think!

I'm trying out a new variable instance preview on Wakamai Fondue Bětâ.
Instead of the green/yellow wall of buttons, I simply preview all of the instances, including the line of CSS you'd need for them.
Check it out on wakamaifondue.com/beta/ and let me know what you think!

I just pushed a small change to wakamaifondue.com/beta/ to improve the OpenType feature previews.
I removed the randomized combinations as they weren't very useful and nobody seemed to like 'em. So the fondue now just shows *all* characters involved in the feature. Also, custom preview for `frac`!

My first real change to Wakamai Fondue's UI is to remove the donation button.
It never worked: people only donated twice, and only after I explicitly posted about it on social media, which felt like begging. All donations have been re-distributed to the amazing folks who contributed code! 💸

Had a great conversation with @sjoy.lol today. We both toyed around with the web as a hobby starting in the late 90s, before eventually turning it into a career much later on.
We talked a lot about that, but then got into accessibility and I just loved how she referred to it as "a heart thing" 😊

Spent the last few days doing some tidying-upping of the Wakamai Fondue codebase. Feels *good* to finally scratch some of those itches.
Also, OpenType feature detection is more robust and doesn't take down the entire "Layout Features" section anymore if it crashes!

I just updated wakamaifondue.com/beta/ again!
If your huge font was stalling the fondue, it should work now. I applied supercomputer voodoo programming (a.k.a. memoization) so it can better handle huge charsets.
It now parses this huge-ass 12MB font in 30 seconds on my machine!

I have just updated wakamaifondue.com/beta after a long time of inactivity 🤯
It might not be a big deal—it works slightly better than before—but it's been a long time coming. I'll tell you about it someday over a beer.
Let me know if something is (still) broken, or even better, if it now works!

Are your fonts breaking Wakamai Fondue?
Or not all features showing up correctly?
I'm looking for fonts to stress-test the fondue, especially the bétà.
(Protip: if you open the developer tools, the console might have reported an error that the site itself doesn't mention!)

Unexpectedly, the CSSWG have accepted our proposal for a new <meta name=text-scale> tag!! This will change the initial font size based on the user's text size setting.
Unfortunately it's going to become part of the boilerplate for every website you make! But will really improve a11y.
