📣 Cumbernauld Theatre has been removed from Creative Scotland's portfolio of funded organisations, placing the company, its employees and its vital work with the local community at risk.

Decided to forgo the rugby for some different drama this afternoon!
I’ve seen a fair few productions of Macbeth, but this one from @donmarwarehouse.bsky.social has to be up there as one of the best…

Stunning retrospective of Everlyn Nicodemus‘s work at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art just now.

I love the chutzpah of her going to the National Museum of Tanzania and demanding they mount an exhibition of her work only six months after she’d started painting!

I thoroughly enjoyed this series.
Worth seeking out and giving a watch!
Coming soon to Channel 4! Join me for Ottoman Empire by Train - a 5-part series where I explore the fascinating, expansive, turbulent history of this empire. I can promise beautiful architecture, bloody battles, medieval magnificence, plenty of trains and, of course, Turkish delight.

Happy 1st of December. Today, a 🧵 of Scottish women worthy of statues. Statues memorialise in a specific way. They honour achievement. First, Jennie Lee, MP and founder of the Open University. The work she did as Arts Minister was transformative. Also = Mrs Aneurin Bevan. /1

Excellent exhibition of work by the late great John Byrne at The Fine Arts Society in Edinburgh just now.
It seems like anything he turned his hand to he excelled at, in his own quirky and unique way.
Fitting and fun tribute to one of my favourite artists.
It’s on til Christmas, catch it if you can!

Just cried my eyes out watching “Blitz”.
A beautifully made, but at times tough to watch film. (though from the director of “12 Years a Slave” I wouldn’t expect any less!)

A total masterclass of a performance! On the edge of my seat watching Robert Lloyd Parry perform his one-man show of M.R. James ghost stories tonight.
He’s on tour, so catch him if you get the chance.

There’s a stonking selection of Old Master drawings on display at the RSA at the moment, from the collection at Chatsworth.
Rubens, Rembrandt, Holbein, Durer and many others.
But my favourite was this beautiful drawing of a horse by Anthony van Dyck.
