i’m watching THE YOGURT SHOP MURDERS on hbo and it is yet another reminder that police are very bad at solving crimes where there isn’t an immediate and obvious suspect, and even then! (also, watching these detectives coerce an innocent person into a false confession…)

do not give money to dems who don’t support court reform. don’t vote in primaries for dems who do not support court reform. do not support dem leadership that will not pursue court reform. do not bother with pundits who are not on board with court reform.

a lot of establishment Democrats have been banking on the assumption that they don't need to message about authoritarianism, civil liberties, etc. because things will simply Get Worse under Trump and everyone will see it. but if the economy holds, they're an opposition party with no clear message.

the big questions for american democracy going forward seem to be (1) can the GOP actually build the federal police state they just funded, (2) in time to finish before democratic checks can be established, and (3) whether dems gaining power would actually try to stop/dismantle it

What I learned today is that the @nytopinion.nytimes.com doesn’t believe in young people of color in leadership. Time and time again people tout “seniority” and “experience”. 75 years ago, there were no women of color elected in NY. Where is “seniority” or “experience” to come from for us?

On Saturday, the FDNY rushed to 26 Federal Plaza, where ICE is holding more than 100 people in inhumane conditions, to respond to an emergency call, only to learn there was no such emergency. What's going on?
