My take is that previous generations estranged themselves at not too dissimilar numbers, they just didn’t have the tools and support that we do, and no one ever fucking talked about it.

My AP Gov’t teacher spoke of SW as an allegory as if it were pretty common knowledge (20 yrs ago). I think it’s prob more likely that critically thinking movie-goers could see parallels (esp. those who lived during Vietnam/Cold War and closer to WWII) than to say “essentially no one noticed”.

I think Bong Joon Ho deserves a shout.
