. Too many shops
. Not enough trains
. Stupid Check-in queues for 🇫🇷🇧🇪🇳🇱
. 2 tracks missing
Here is where we post transit content about the places we visit, correct?

"being able to take the Eurostar" shouldn't be a "luxury privilege"

The real "luxury privilege" in #CrossChannelRail should be VSOE.

Or a daytime Pullman train ferry London V ↔️ Paris N using the "Brighton Belle" stock 😋.
I'm really torn between "being able to take the Eurostar is a luxury privilege and I should pipe down" and "the security and waiting conditions at St Pancras are unacceptable"

More Gen AI will lead to more human idiocy and ignorance.
Before Gen AI, 2-3 students out of 150 would fail my Death and Dying course. This semester 17 failed the entire course and 16 received 0 on the final assignment.

Multiple units, rather than carriages, are the future of sleeper trains.
Yesterday, Tren Maya introduced its newest train, the Pa’tal, on a special run between Cancun and Mérida! 🚆 🇲🇽

These new units are made to run on long distances across the Yucatán Peninsula.

Let’s take a closer look at them 👀

Dr Beeching applied its 🩺💊💉 a tad too much in 🇬🇧 in the early-1960s.

But 🇫🇷 experienced ALL-OUT devastation of its 🛤️ network from the Coordination Decrees 1934 until the late-1970s.

Yes, enlightened leadership is lacking.

(And if privatisation is the mother of all the 🛤️ misery in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, why didn't Labour put an end to it some time between 1997 and 2010? 🤔😬🤯)

Those TGV Paris - Milan are already quite a long, complicated history.
When the 2 first daily returns by Artesia (SNCF-FS) began service on 2 June 1996, they ran to an orderly timetable, at the same minute, clockface-style.

They all the same stopping pattern: LYS ✈️, Chambéry Challes les Eaux
🔜
I know my trips are a bit strange, but I’d actually like to go from Milano or Torino to Macon Loché TGV. But the morning train from Italy doesn’t stop there, the afternoon trains do 🤷‍♂️

St Jean de Maurienne is even stranger - 3 trains a day from Paris, only 2 to Paris

Set down a comprehensive vision for nationwide passenger rail transport.

Do so by setting
. Frequency
. Train categories
For each corridor and each OD.

Then do the same for regional and suburban rail services.

Then articulate and coordinate those 3 tiers.
@alonlevy.bsky.social – accepting that night trains are unlikely to ever be a good use of resources, what’s the solution here? More attention to cross-border HSR issues to make more long-distance routes viable during the daytime? Eventually some sort of maglev?

Brilliant discussion by @jonworth.eu on prospects for #CrossChannelRail.

2 (minor) errors:
. there are through services by ex-Thalys Bruxelles M - Düsseldorf Hbf
. The decision to extend juxtaposed 🛂 controls to 🇫🇷🇬🇧 HSR predates 9/11.
it was made in 2000 owing to undocumented asylum seekers.
Want a LOT more detail on all of this?

Merry Xmas to all of you.😘

This Christmas Day is so far the toughest and weirdest in my life:

My sick dad passed away as I was travelling to him and my mum.😔😓

Burial yesterday in a hurry.
My mum is so knackered and depressed that she can't have any guests home.😭

Back to 🇱🇺, very lonely 🥺

If GBR is for 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿,

Then shouldn't TER Bretagne be called LBR (Little British Railways?) 🤡🤡🤡
"It is unclear whether Johnson and his cabinet colleagues understood that “Great Britain” gained its “Great” simply as a marker of its size, to distinguish it from the smaller Brittany in France, rather than as a description of its brilliance". Nah, I think I know
#TheBeautyOfTransport is looking at the newly unveiled GBR branding - not just what it is, but how we ended up with it, and how far it will actually spread. It's a long article this time, so plenty to keep you going over the holidays. Season's Greetings!

SWT had a very smart and simple idea when refurbishing the 455s 20 years ago: allow doors to open more broadly.
It made an appreciable difference.

Anne Widdecombe has always been a source of good, guaranteed entertainment.

She definitely tricked me into following-up closely every stage of the Westminster Circus.

Thumbs up Anne 😘
Fun Fact: the ‘People’s Party’ spent £16k on helicopter rides and even £5k on a chauffeur for Anne Widdecombe in 2024.

2025 spend is likely more. If you donate to them, remember ‘they understand working people’.

This idiot just wants to be on the pic with set S- 11x.001 by the General Election 2027.

Too late, you should have started the procurement process in 2023.

Delivery is not the whole picture. There is certification, staff training and maintenance facilities.
@jonworth.eu should write a blogpost 😊

So, GNER livery for faster mainline services

Turquoise blue (~Ouigo) with the same red stripe and doors for slower mainline services

For regional services, GWR green + GNER red doors and stripe

For commuter/urban services, yellow (Mancunian 🐝) + GNER red doors and stripe.
The nicest livery ever applied on a TGV was in fact... 🇬🇧

This absolutely super GNER livery, sober and classy at the same time.

Pity it didn't inspire the GBR livery.
