Today, I took some time to watch some videos about Velvet (Proxima) by Rachel Picard.

1️⃣ The very first of the 12 Avelia Horizon sets ordered in October 2024 will start static trials in late-2026 and dynamic trials early-2027.

2️⃣ Proxima also approached Siemens and Hitachi. And only considered

20 years ago, 🇦🇷 was eyeing a 🇫🇷-style LGV on Mar de la Plata - Buenos Aires - Rosario - Córdoba.

As in 🇲🇦, TGV Euroduplex was to be ordered.
La Pampa flat emptiness would have kept construction costs to a world-record low.

This S-106F of Renfe stabled in Hausbergen these days is in appalling attire.🤢🤢🤮

It looks like a train wreckage waiting for its turn to the scrapyard 😬😬😬

More precisely, about 1km further West past the portal of the HS1 tunnel bound for Stratford, next to the freight yard connected with HS1.

There is passive provision for a c2c + Overground station called Green Castle (ex Renwich Rd).

From there, #CrossChannelRail budget passengers could connect

Will Celestias interior really look like this and offer some heavenly travelling experience?
🔜

Yes, it is.

22 km via Hoerdt South, then passing between Kilstett and Gambsheim, then straight to Bühl.

This way, 🇫🇷🇩🇪 local HSLs will no longer be parallel with some no man's land in between.

They will henceforth join each other.🥳🥳🥳

With easy-to-build chords between Kilstett and La Wantzenau,

The streets are wide enough to accommodate 1 metre-gauge track. Perhaps 2 at places.

The only real pinch point is past Laboureur, on Rue Carnot.
But very quickly, you end up on M660 or along the Canal.

Then, it could go further on former Line 85 RoW until Dottignies and Avelgem.

There's quite a lot to do to get the most of 🇪🇦 HSR CURRENTLY in operation.

Long-term a by-pass, from El Goloso/Fuencarral to Mejorada del Campo/Vicálvaro vía MAD✈️ would open quite many opportunities.

For AVE, Iryo, Ouigo & Avant, too.

Stations:
. Colmenar Viejo East (C4️⃣)
. Barajas (✈️, C1️⃣, Ⓜ️5️⃣&8️⃣)
🔜
October 23, 2025 at 4:00 PM
And another AV station in Parla East, where the HSLs to Western Andalusia / Levante briefly run next to Cercanías line C4️⃣.
(And local 🚈 of Parla can easily extend there, too).

This way, Ouigo may join all Catalonia and Andalusia services, while skipping and relieving Puerta de Atocha.

I can see SUD Rail picketing any train by Ouigo 🇪🇦 trying to leave towards Narbonne

This line Barcelona S - Sevilla SJ is just a merger of 2 existing radial lines.

Perhaps ADIF should build an AV station in Vicálvaro, where the HSL passes over Ⓜ️9️⃣.

From there, only 35km are missing to Santander.

In a 15-20 year term, reinstatement looks realistic.

The RoW is still there and preserved with a 🚲 Via Verde.
The line was built with passive provision for a 2nd track + ⚡.

So, 25kV, part double-track, 100-120km/h in the top part and 120-140km/h

Out of the 150km between Burgos and Santander, 115km from Burgos to Merindad were built and operated until 1966/1985.

As other shortcutting lines of
Plan Guadalhorce, SMR features smoother curves and gradients than older lines.

It also includes a 7-km tunnel below the Corniche crest.🔜
October 23, 2025 at 9:47 AM
But there is more beyond Burgos, when coming from Madrid:

Santander.

Those 3 cities are perfectly aligned, and it's no coincidence at all that Santander is Madrid's harbour on the Cantabrigian Sea while Valenca does the same job on the Med.

And yes, there could be some 🛤️ on Burgos - Santander

Actually, Eskio-Itsaso AV will be much closer to Anduaga, notwithstanding its compound denomination.

But it will be a PARKWAY STATION. 😤
Across the valley.😔

So, no interface with MD and Cercanías. 😬😬😬

Unless a station is built on the conventional line + 🚠 in between?
🔜
October 17, 2025 at 8:23 AM
Hence its twisty geometry, leading to speed mostly in the 90-110km/h range.

Basque Y shall relieve it, and speed up journey times.

But quite many populated cities (Zumárraga, Beásain, Tolosa, Andoain) will be left aside.

True, there will be a station called Eskio-Itsaso on the HSL.

may also be very suitable for passenger traffic.

Let's say 120-140 km/h, more reasonable.
This line is single-track, but has had passive provision for a 2nd track (and ⚡) since Day 1.

Burgos - Miranda - Vitoria - Alsasua is a double-track ⚡railway, with pretty good line speeds (140-160km/h).

1️⃣2️⃣ Madrid - Burgos - Vitoria - San Sebastián (Hendaye)

The iconic and scenic Directo has been suspended since subsidence in the tunnel beneath the Somosierra Pass (2011).

There are now plans to reopen, ⚡(25kV) and upgrade it to 140-160km/h) in the 2030s.

Primarily for Freight, but such speeds

benefit Madrid - Jaén, but also freighters to Andalusia and beyond, to Algesiras and 🇲🇦.

Not to mention the prospect for the tunnel Tarifa 🇪🇦 - West Tangiers 🇲🇦.

And in passenger traffic, there is more to serve <100km beyond:

Granada.

A new fast line (200km/h, 25kV, partly single-track) on

Cluny - Mâcon, with a short tunnel skipping Col du Bois-clair.

It sadly closed down in 1968.

LGV PSE marginally runs alongside the former RoW, and the station building of La Roche Vineuse is on the South side.

There was also a line Paray le M - Charolles - Cluny.
🔜
October 11, 2025 at 12:24 PM
Vadollano - Linares B - Espeluy - Jaén is single-tracked, 3kV and mostly 160km/h.

Short-term, dual-tracking and upgrade to 200-220km/h of Vadollano - Jaén is doable, with a short by-pass of Espeluy, so as to remove the reversal.
🔜
October 8, 2025 at 7:02 PM
Santa Cruz de Mudela - Almuradiel is twistier (130km/h).

Almuradiel - Vilches is the real pinch point: super twisty through the Despeñaperros Gorge, so 80km/h on >20km

Vilches - Vadollano was dual-tracked and upgraded to 220 in the early-10s.
But too short to sustain >160, in fact.
