Just finished a gripping series of books by Bernard Cornwell. The way Cornwell weaves the fictional character, Richard Sharpe, into the Napoleonic wars is great and quite gritty. Is anyone else a fan of Sharpe? Which was your favourite book in the series?

The UK's Foreign Secretary is right to say that the world should not forget Sudan. I hope his plan to hold a summit in London happens sooner rather than later.

I have a lot of respect and admiration for the stroke survivors who attend the weekly 'After Stroke Group', where I am a volunteer. Each of them has their own unique set of challenges and struggles due to their stroke, and yet they still participate in the group's activities. A lesson for us all.

I didn't know it took 3 litres of tap water to make 1 litre of bottled water. There's the plastic pollution associated with bottled water as well.

There are a lot of things that fascinate me in the natural world, and so I turn to science to find the answers. Sometimes, I get an added bonus, such as whilst getting 8 hours of sleep, all of us have travelled over half a million miles through space on this wonderful planet of ours.

Renewable energy is far cheaper than energy generated using fossil fuels. When renewable energy generation is high, the price of electricity plummets in the tariff I have that is linked to daily wholesale prices. I can see the effect on this live energy dashboard.

It's good to see the UKs commitment to international diplomacy and step up on the global stage and potentially strengthen ties with the EU.

I'm pleased to hear that the conflict in Gaza appears to be moving towards peace. What very rarely hits the headlines, however, is what's happening Sudan. The humanitarian crisis is truly horrendous.

Men's Sheds is a community project that started in Australia in the 1980s and has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. I have no hesitation in recommending them. My shed concentrates on woodworking, although I was asked to organise a breakfast get-together when I got home!

I can relate to this when I first took up running at the age of 56. I found a quiet field somewhere where no one could see my first tentative steps. Haven't looked back since, including gym work.
