Family stuff, music stuff, techie stuff, Oxford commas, and total nonsense. Not always in that order. All posts are my own views, except when they are also yours. Child of the 1980s.

I heard the Pas de Deux from The Nutcracker on the radio while I was driving in to work this morning, and I'm always disarmed by its depth, sitting as it does amidst an array of mostly sickly-sweet confections. There is pain in it, but also consolation: like a comforting arm around the shoulder.
still can’t get past the obvious topical overlap between the pas de deux and sixth symphony finale; what’s that music doing there before the recapitulation? or why does the sixth symphony finale sound so much like it, and they both feature ponderous descending scales as primary thematic material

Sorry, but I find the expression "Merry Christmas" offensive. "Happy Holidays" is also unacceptable. The same goes for "Good Morning" or "Hello" or any type of greeting, or even eye contact, before lunchtime. Or at any time.

If you look closely, it's actually very very very very very very very very dark blue. #BlackFriday

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Me (buying my current car): Heated steering wheel? Pfft. What a ridiculous gimmick. Nobody needs that.

Me (this morning): Can't this bastard wheel heat up any faster?

Just being reminded of what an astonishing and unique individual Fred Dibnah was. Such admirable courage, grit and stoicism. This clip is mesmerising. And I could listen to his voice for hours. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKPA...

I hear that magnesium supplements can simultaneously aid sleep and relieve constipation.

Hopefully that's not *too* simultaneous. 😳
