It's a coup. This is the most powerful - and admittedly, frightening - piece I've read yet on what's happening to the US. And very likely to the rest of us soon if we don't do something*.

*"Something" starts with being informed.

IT IS A COUP
This is what should be on every front page in 150 point banner headlines. All I have is this Substack but I lay it beneath your feet and pray to a higher power that I'm wrong.

I had a feeling this was coming. It's why the celebrations of the ceasefire made me sick with worry. It was far too good to be true.

Sunday so some fiddle practice. Plus the weather's awful so staying in by the fire and playing tunes. Today I'm practising Ashokan Farewell. Yes, I know my playing is baggy 😬 I'll get better, honest.

Final stage on the quince painting. This is 10 x 8, oils and cold wax medium. I mention the medium just because. It made a lot of the texture and it sounds cool to say it.

I think a lot about an interview I heard with Ben Ferencz, who was the last living Nuremberg prosecutor and a lifelong human rights activist. He lived to be 103 and was working
to the end. He talked about progress as the work of lifetimes. Of knowing you won’t reach your goal in your life.
the thing most people, and most notably white people but this applies across the board, is that resistance to oppression is neither a marathon nor a sprint but a diverse and multi-faceted effort, much of which will result in no victories whatsoever

but you do it anyway, the little things

Yes it’s a set back . A major one . But we cannot give up . Not now , not ever . In the UK I’m campaigning for a ban on fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship , because for too long these companies have had largely unlimited £££ to greenwash their filthy reputations . No more .
Petition: Ban fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship
Advertisements encourage the use of products and sponsorship promotes a positive reputation & creates a social licence of trust & acceptability. In 2003 a ban on all tobacco advertising was introduced...

Given that the world appears to be ending I feel strangely proud that I managed to paint today. Session three, no plan, but there will definitely be at least one more session. A quince.

I keep thinking today about how Trump said that people won't have to vote gain, as if it was a imposition to do so. I think he meant it.
Ask Tymothy Snyder what he thinks about this. @timothysnyder.bsky.social

It’s impossible to overstate just how crazy it is that the incoming president launched his own fake money right before taking office.

Apparently, he's getting an early start in.

Appalling doesn't come close.
So Trump launched a meme coin on Friday night, just days before becoming President, and entities he controls retain 80% of the coin. And the coin passed a $9 billion market cap in just hours.

I just can't...

I've subscribed, and am supporting. I've been reading Dave Troy for a good while, wasn't convinced about all his analysis at first. He's been proved right time and again. We need poeple like this to unravel the obfuscation and they need to eat so they can do it, that's how I look at it.

I resolved to post more of myself here than I did at that other place. This is my favourite Sunday morning thing to do. Most mornings actually. And this is a bit embarrassing for me to post so good for accountability 🙄 it's a Scottish tune I'm learning called Da Stocklit Light.

If we do nothing while people are fired, we will all end up silenced.
