I’m absolutely serious about this. Today I have registered the domain name womenforhumanrights.co.uk

Maybe this won’t be what sticks, but it’s a start.

Explainer about how I got to this choice in various conversations in the original 🧵

All humans welcome.
There must be hundreds of thousands of women in the uk who are the mums, sisters, aunts, partners, daughters and nieces of trans people. We need to form some sort of coalition of women against transphobia.

This is actually a really good book. You should absolutely get it.
I've been out for 12 trillion years and I never know what to do or say on Trans Day of Visibility. I wrote a book with Caden Mark Gardner on transness in cinema if you wanna read that. Stand up for trans people. Tell a trans woman she's a beautiful genius. IDK.

Watched some video on Insta, got caught by the background music… sounds familiar… wait, is that……. It is.

It’s the opening theme from Short Circuit 2.

What a weirdly deep cut.

Do I like it more this time?

Hmmm, maybe kinda. Didn’t feel as overlong as it when I first saw it, which I’d expect from a second viewing, now that I’ve got a better sense of its pace.

But, honestly, still found it derivative and unnecessarily convoluted. The shadow of The Dark Knight can…
Now onto everyone’s favourite… let’s see if I actually like it this time.

Also still a banger. It’s (only just) the second longest film in the series, but also feels like the one that’s got the most out of its runtime. I appreciate that it’s maybe not something that everyone would regard as a plus, but it feels like it’s managed to work in a full season’s worth of…

It’s good, and the idea of their tech repeatedly breaking thereby forcing them to improvise is decent, but it does feel like some of the beats work better on paper than in practice (e.g. the sandstorm chase). And Renner’s character does feel at kind of a loose end.

Still works like gangbusters. That cold open is a great, offering Tom a good chance to showcase range by way of Ethan’s attempts to bargain, threaten, beg and bluff against Hoffman, who is excellent as the bad guy.

Nonsense. Truly just does not work. Even in the moments when craft is on display, it’s in service of a script that was wrong-headed from the start, and the wrong people are in playing it all out.

Still a banger. De Palma predictably directs it like he gives a shit.

Also, forgot that whole midpoint heist sequence is almost completely silent. One of those “don’t think you could do that now” kinda things.
