I suppose we can all take comfort in knowing that Clark Bezo is too inept to achieve his clearly-stated priorities as Councillor.
Amanda Hess' excellent book about technology and motherhood shows how predatory, invasive, and destabilizing parenting apps/companies already already are. Undoubtedly built on LLMs we know give bad/dangerous advice, this sort of thing is truly insane.

You might think no, I do not need to read 14,153 words about John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats. But I think that probably you do need to read 14,153 words about John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats.

The Story John Darnielle Lived to Tell
When he was a teenager, the Mountain Goats founder never expected to live to 21. He has since become one of this century’s best songwriters. The lessons of his survival, life, and work feel endless.

My wife and I just re-watched 'Rosemary's Baby' this week, but after reading this...child birth has never seemed so ominous.
Burton; Some say this is buying a bike pump before a bicycle. I might say it's like buying a crib before the baby. #yqrcc

Are we seriously going to do fucking base tax again? I know 90s fashion is hip again, but can't we just leave it there?
Bezo: Mr Elliot, you've been around for quite a while. The base tax refers to water, street infrastructure & everyone who lives here benefits from that. Why oppose base tax if it's a collective tax that benefits all residents? #yqrcc

Sinking funds is bad naming. It will never not sound like something bad is happening with that money. It sounds like it's going down the tubes, the money.
CFO: When we set up our sinking funds, our policy limited our ability to invest in different product types b/c our policy was too restrictive. We went back to our partners at TD & asked how to adjust w/out changing the risk profile. #yqrcc

Fully unnecessary! Every established school gets by with normal-ass roads. Pick up and drop off at my kid's south end school lasts like eight minutes maximum. Outside of that it's normal use.
Just a reminder that this is out in the mega-boonies. 4 lanes being necessary right this second is... kinda insane.

It's school traffic, and that's it.

American is SO INSANE. Government shut down for over a month, people losing out on food programs, yet there’s money for a fake MySpace with blatantly racist jokes (and they’re still coming for the lady Ghostbusters??).

Also the Mythbusters busted the food in the tailpipe myth like 30 years ago and anything with a combustion engine will not be affected at all!
To everyone saying they're planning to put the potatoes in car tailpipes, no, they are not, and the way that I know they are not is that the children in my neighborhood are not 75 years old.
People are not lying about what happens when you do this. I've had five kids so far take potatoes and three take apples.

Aside from the absolute joker who dumped beer on me just as the fellows were taking the stage, this was a near-perfect live experience of my favourite piece of Regina culture.

QCIB forever.
Stage is set up for the QCIB show. Doors open soon.

The wide-eyed joy and excitement is palpable in everything Mamdani does and it makes all the difference. It is so rare in wannabe politicians.
Yet again, Mamdani shows that the most effective digital comms isn't just about clever videos or punchy scripts — it's doing things in the real world with real people.

Starting up a petition for Regina City Councillor Mark Burton to be, as my late father was fond of saying, SHOT WITH A BALL OF HIS OWN SHIT.
Bike Regina advocated for bike lanes at council's budget meeting on the capital plan & 2 clrs (Turnbull & Burton) took the opportunity to interrogate them about helmet bylaws. This is how one councillor responded to me suggesting this was a. dumb, and b. not a question for a BUDGET meeting. #yqrcc

I’m not doing either, but maybe YOU should do this!
Friendly reminder that Tidal ($10.99) is now cheaper than Spotify ($11.99), delivers better audio quality, pays its artists 2x as much, and generally doesn't allow AI slop.

You can move your entire music library over in a matter of minutes.

...he said, during the debate about the city adopting provincial legislation.

That's so silly. You can't act like there are hard, fast lines around these issues. The impact of these policies overlaps and impacts in messy ways.
Zachidniak: What is meant by "compassionate care" is the forced treatment…
Mayor: We have to be careful not to debate something that is provincial jurisdiction. The compassionate care is with the province, not the city. #yqrcc

Good to know that not much has changed with teens since the late 90s.

I am inspired to apologize to anyone whose home my group of friends threw tiny onions at that one time, and those whose cars we placed a slice of pizza under the windshield wiper in the night.
Meanwhile in Saskatoon, two vehicles were allegedly clocked at speeds of up to 155 km/h during a race after *checks notes* a student threw a piece of cheese at another student.

Front-runner for the most Trump-ish statement I’ve ever heard from Council. Like every other council has been out here lying to people? Get the hell out of here, this council is not special in any tangible way.
Tsiklis: I'm not looking to terrify people but we need to tell them the truth. And we've been doing that more than any other council in history. #yqrcc

The result of Google destroying ad revenue for media outlets, pretty much every news site in the world goes ham on Prime Days because they're getting a meagre cut when people click on the affiliate links in their stories and buy something. It's not outright extortion, but it's still pretty gross!
twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

Watching ‘Halloween’ with both girls, reading Edward Gorey books with Izzy, and making a Y2K-era pop-punk playlist for Charlie makes me feel like every parenting choice we’ve ever made is being affirmed all at once.
