More Murdoch scumdoggery: publish something completely fake and injurious, say “oopsie!” and take it down when called out, but by then other media outlets have obligingly picked it up.
Rupert Murdoch-owned @thetimes.com of London completely fabricates a hit piece on @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social , gets called out by former mayor Deblasio — then deletes it.🤔

A good analysis and warning by @donalgill.bsky.social: mainstream politicians take note, we *really* do not want to be going down the UK’s path.
The rise of reactionary anti-system populism in Canada will be difficult to prevent unless the centre and left actively confront the deepening gaps in our democratic system before further economic turbulence intensifies the crisis.
Canada’s democratic deficit can no longer be ignored

It is indeed a wild read, and queasy-making
This is a wild read. It's remarkable how much Peter Thiel thinks he knows that is just ignorant and poorly thought out. It's also pretty clear these people have never deeply read a book by Tolkien (or anybody else). Most confusing for people of this wealth, can't they find editors?

I had never heard of Eswatini until now: apparently the former Swaziland, and Africa’s last absolute monarchy.
Last weekend, the Trump administration sent 10 more people to an Eswatini prison, joining five other ICE detainees sent there in July.
None of the 15 men sent to the nation are from Eswatini. But they are now under the authority of its king.

A very timely take on the unedifying Riadh comedy fest, from a colleague of the journalist murdered by the regime there a few years back.

But I’ll never stop talking about my friend, writer, and amazing human, Jamal Khashoggi.

Marisa Kabas is always worth reading, and this is a headline worthy of framing. As well as much else pertinent, this piece contains a jaw-dropping quote from Stephen “Goebbels” Miller, from Trump’s first term: I knew that man was pure evil from the moment I first saw and heard him.

We're witnessing the culminating rot of shareholder capitalism in real time.
Some of the most powerful corporations in America have sided with an authoritarian regime in order to protect their short term profits — the fundamental rights of everyone else be damned.

To be clear, the focus of the meeting is not stopping fascism. The topic is "establishing a new economic and security relationship with the U.S."
So I think it's more accurate to say the guy who wrote the fascist playbook is offering advice on submitting to fascism.

If cabinet is hoping the guy who wrote the fascist playbook will give advice on stopping fascism then we are in trouble.
