It's alarming how many people need to hear this: racism is not the natural and inevitable response to the presence of (the wrong number of) racialised Others. It is a learned response, and as such it is contestable and replaceable.

This is anti-racism 101. Entry level stuff.
This is first time I’ve heard the govt making the Labour argument for controlling immigration.

Mahmood argues that controlling our borders is good for race relations, because uncontrolled immigration is feeding far right rhetoric and tensions.

Expect to hear a lot more of that.

Should we be calling them in? I don't know. It feels like a distraction (shout out Toni Morrison). The people who wanted to march but didn't and who might now feel emboldened...can they be called in? What is all this for if not the belief that we all deserve freedom? And can we win without them?

If I was still on Twitter (or rather, if Twitter still existed) I probably would've posted something about Saturday's march. Others have already said it but it's dangerous to dismiss the marchers (not the organisers) as stupid and jobless. I don't think it's true and it doesn't call them in

The EHRC shocked a UN discrimination expert by stating what the intent behind using "biological sex" is back in 2023

Of course they didn't define it - just as the Supreme Court didn't - because it is meaningless other than as a "get out of jail free" card for discriminating against trans people

"It's like they're saying "we don't want any more of your babies"" - this is a quote from Adele, a black woman in her 40s, that I interviewed as part of a pilot research project exploring black people's experiences of fertility care.

Imagine taking cutesy pictures of your baby with a man who hesitates to condemn genocide, cuts welfare payments for disabled people, allows his cabinet to make unsubstantiated statements about mental illness and celebrate legal victories against trans people. Is it worth it? Can it ever be worth it?
