Researching second-generation identity, home, and belonging in Ireland.
Thanks to everyone who shared this around over the last 9 months or so.

I have my final interview today and then a very, very, very long analysis ahead of me!

Interviews have been really interesting, and the process has already taught me a lot.

Here's to the next chapter 🚀
What does it mean to call Ireland 'home'?

This is what I'm trying to find out - still looking for suitable participants!

Please get in touch if you or someone you know might be interested in sharing their story.

This is an fascinating read, and an excellent analysis of contemporary far-right discourse in Ireland.

Nearly there with the interviews - thanks to all who shared this already.

Hoping for a final push to recruit one or two more participants.

The findings so far have been really interesting - will share more when progress with the analysis.

And my research has now even made it onto a Substack newsletter - it's in Italian but most browsers can translate this.

Many thanks to my dissertation supervisor @niamhestack.bsky.social for her guidance with this. I never thought it would lead to a holiday - and to a couple of DJ gigs!

It was a pleasure sharing my research on DJs experiences of performance anxiety at Better Days in Turin over the weekend.

The event was attended by DJs, dancers, and people who were curious about the psychology of performance anxiety, both on and off the dancefloor.

Philip Seymour Hoffman
This is a Bill Simmons game, but you’re stranded on a desert island. You can only have one actor’s filmography. You get it all, including cameos. But just the one performer.

I’m taking Cate Blanchett: Talented Mr. Ripley, LOTR, Life Aquatic, Black Bag, Tár, Ponyo, Hot Fuzz, Eyes Wide Shut, Thor

Happening this weekend - really looking forward to discussing the psychology of the dancefloor, from DJs' experiences of performance anxiety behind the decks, to collective identity on the dancefloor, plus the historical importance of inclusive dance spaces for people from marginalised communities
Delighted to be sharing my undergraduate dissertation research on DJs experiences of performance anxiety at Better Days in Turin next month.

We'll also talk about the psychology of the dancefloor - collective experiences and identity - and I'll get to play some records too!

A very fun day presenting my current research on second-gen identity, home and belonging to Applied Social Psychology students at MIC.

Thanks to my wonderful supervisor, @marcscully.bsky.social for giving me the opportunity to share some preliminary findings - and a chance to practice!

This is an excellent read.

While my own experience of academia has been predominantly positive so far, I am highly aware of phrases like 'publish or perish', framing success as an 'all-or-nothing' binary.

So far I've heard some really rich and interesting stories from my participants on how second-gen identity is negotiated in contemporary Ireland.

Still looking for more participants, and would appreciate another push from my Irish followers if possible 🙏

That sounds brilliant.

(My) Aoife was born during Italia 90 and the stories that her family tells about her birth always talk about the Cameroon vs. Colombia match on her birth day and the Irish Italia 90 experience.

Ha! You can add that to your list of interests for UGD students and DA applicants next year - although I doubt there would be much interest among the Gen Z group for that very niche topic.

Hmmmm maybe it had to do with Mary Robinson being the *first* female President?

I also had mostly female teachers in primary school - if gender had any bearing on the no homework decision?

We might also have just been lucky!
