Strongest condemnation from a local politician so far coming from Labour's Ged Nash - underlining how close we may have been to having several lives lost in Drogheda overnight as a result of this attack.

I am absolutely seething this morning. We have normalised an environment where violence against migrants has been allowed to fester. And it could have killed men, women and children last night.

Instead of tackling far right terrorism and extremism, we have a Tánaiste and Minister dog whistling.

Fair play to DCC on this. They have been taking the complaints from me and many others seriously.

Gated courtyards are not public realms. We have to end the obsession with gates and hostile architecture.

Other developments are erecting/closing gates contrary to planning.
The council says it has started legal action over fences around apartment complex in the Liberties. Meanwhile, the developer of Grand Canal Harbour is preparing a planning application to try to get permission to retain the fences, a council official says.

Great article on the impact of the Guinness Trust & Edward Cecil Guinness on the Liberties and social housing in the city.

The first development was built in 1892 and has uplifted generations, including mine. That same development holds my family home.

Gaza City is in famine, caused by Israel's blocking of aid.

For those of us who have never experienced nor witnessed such horror, mass starvation is difficult to understand.

The Journal spoke to doctors about what happens when a person starves. http://jrnl.ie/6793073

Even if a starving person regains access to food, they remain at huge risk.

Whenever public opinion and international pressure becomes unignorable, offer a token concession that will diffuse momentum and act as a fig leaf, while maintaining the mass death and expulsion. It’s a playbook.
Israel said Friday that it will allow other countries to drop aid from the air into the Gaza Strip, where children have died of malnutrition and nearly one in three people is coping with food insecurity, according to the UN's World Food Program.
Israel to Allow Aid Airdrops Over Gaza During Starvation Crisis
Jordan and the United Arab Emirates were expected to begin airdrops in the coming days, but experts warned that the bulk of necessary aid could come only by land.

It's hard not to feel helpless, if not hopeless these days.

But if these times don't politicise people to fight for more, for better, for right.. I don't know what will.

My own little timeline cleanse of me doing my little bit over the last week.

I wrote this on the most consistently terrible, and fatal, idea in centrist politics today. On Fanta, rebadging, and why attempting to win votes from fascists is morally disgusting and politically suicidal.

Séamas O'Reilly: Appeasing the far-right won't placate them — they'll just want the next cruelty
Their concerns are not about society, the economy or public safety, they’re an ever-moving target of fear and hatred that cannot be sated, it has to be challenged.

After a few years of community & youth work in Dublin 10, I'm moving on. Mixed emotions - sadness to leave young people but excitement to work back in politics.

We need someone to replace me. My youth justice role is being advertised - tough, but rewarding work 😊👇 www.foroige.ie/work-us/curr...

In pardoning all of the J6th insurrectionists, with barely a whimper of opposition, Trump has signalled a new age of acquiescence in American politics.

He's trying to control not just the present but the past. In effect, he was pardoning himself.

I'm no fan of how exclusive the Seanad Éireann election is. But I'm glad to use that vote today, of all days, for progressive candidates

I'm glad to give my number one vote to Alice Mary Higgins, who's been a great legislator, and to give preferences to Greens and other progressives.

Last week, Cllr. Philip Sutcliffe, who is a Dublin South Central candidate, was speaking about the "dangers" of immigrants in our city.

Here he is, hand in hand with McGregor, his prime backer and supporter, a danger to women.
