68% of Japanese respondents to a Nikkei survey last year said they were in favor of constitutional reform. 68%. Highest number since the poll began, per Nikkei.

I can only imagine those numbers will go up this year.

A hunch for no particular reason...

Expect renewed calls in Seoul and Tokyo for a nuclear deterrent in the near-term.

Shinzo Abe's influence on POTUS continues?

I joke, but hand-selecting members of the press pool able to ask the president questions is a play akin to Japan and its infamous "kisha kurabu" 記者クラブ (lit. reporters' club)

Xinhua reporters are going viral on Twitter over Xiaohongshu. A dream for Beijing.

Sure wish there was a "Chinese state media" label on stuff like this.

Did a talk on journalism to undergraduates. Learned very interesting stuff about how youngsters consume and interpret information, and how they judge the news media (trigger alert for any journalists out there whose core belief is that we're important).

Using Bluesky on a day like today with tumultuous world events feels very much like using Twitter before it went downhill. It's wonderful.

Accurate, fast information that you need to do your job in a pinch. Twitter just can't do that anymore.

Bluesky is scratching that itch to be able to follow good and reliable information of fast moving international developments that twitter used to. No conspiracy theories or trolls. Quick, efficient, reliable information from reputable journalists. I missed this so much.

National Assembly gathering peacefully. Looks like Lee Jae-myung just arrived?

This thing is looking more over by the minute. Military just pacing around.

Folks in D.C. ignored his domestic train wreck because he was playing nice with Japan and he sang a song at the White House. That was obviously missing the forest for the trees. His entire foreign policy will be repudiated, and relations with Japan will be radioactive.

Equally harrowing and moronic.

Basically a bad Chun Doo-hwan impersonation. And why would anyone want to impersonate Chun Doo-hwan?

At Brookings, INDOPACOM ADM Paparo says Kim Jong-Un is "reforming the North Korean state in a new image" by eschewing unification and portraying South Korea as an "other."

Says growing partnership with Russia, even at the potential expense of good ties with PRC, is evidence of this change.

INDOPACOM ADM Paparo projects confidence at Brookings that #SouthChinaSea tensions will not lead to open US-China conflict.

"Cooler heads will prevail" to prevent unintentional escalation in the Sea vis-a-vis something like a collision between a PLAN and USN vessel, he says.

"Kowtow" is kind of crazy though

A good and timely piece by the fine journos at WaPo.

My question--why not mention Seoul's perspective here? Kim Jong-un has changed since 2018/19, sure, but so has the South Korean government! Different ballgame between Yoon and Moon.
