It is in our own best interest to stop exploiting and killing members of other species for our purposes. We need to abolish all animal agriculture before it abolishes us.

My comic on the life of a dairy cow is out from behind the hard paywall!

I wrote this as a hopefully definitive answer to a question I've gotten for many years: "What's wrong with dairy?"

Once you really see what dairy is, it's like the scales falling from your eyes

Tradition should be a bridge to the past, not a barricade against ethical progress. Let’s not forget that evolving traditions to embrace compassion and ethics isn’t breaking them; it’s improving them for a world that desperately needs it.

In this week's column, I explore what I see as a very real prospect of systemic collapse, caused by Trump's actions, and suggest we start preparing.
I try to explain how complex systems fail, and suggest some of the failure paths we could be on.

Veganism isn’t about vegans—it’s about animals. Shift the focus where it belongs, and going vegan becomes a whole lot clearer. Vegans aren’t the point; the animals are.

Polyurethane-coated fabrics generate a lot of pollution, but don’t hold a candle to the pollution of leather production:

-carbon from the ranch
-nitrates from the slaughterhouse
-ferrochrome from the smelter
-chromic oxide from the tannery

Leather is by far the worst fashion industry on Earth.

Meat presents a conundrum for parents, who teach their kids to treat animals with kindness but avoid telling them about the realities of animal slaughter involved in producing meat.

Eating habits are harder to change as we age. Would making the meat-animal connection earlier in life help with the adoption of plant-based diets?

One of my favorite articles published this year is @jandutkiewicz.bsky.social’s You’re Wrong About PETA.

The oft-maligned animal rights group is typically the butt of jokes or even villainized, but the reality is PETA has been extremely important to making progress in this space for decades.
You’re wrong about PETA
The nonprofit is a punchline. It’s also forced the world to face factory farming, animal cruelty, and our own hypocrisy.

The word #Animal comes from the Latin word anima, meaning "soul". Later, animale was used, meaning "living being, a being that breathes".

Other animals are living, breathing, souls.

Humans must stop believing their erroneous indoctrination that we have a right to violently assault them. #veganism
