Talking about RU economics, numbers in general

This needs special explanatory thread on those who's not in @evgen-istrebin.bsky.social TG chats.

So, who's complaining: the "middle" class and predominantly those with mortgages, mainly private house owners.

What has happened? As usual, combination of several factors.
The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service has not found any increases of tariffs beyond the 1,7% applied in January 2026. That should tell you how much they serve the Russian public. Here's a vie of the actual increases for Novgorod region:

"Essentially bankrupt." (rzd)

I'm not sure how 1% increase in rates will solve the issue.

Okay, western press also notices and writes about budgets issues. And everyone posting prices of cucumbers in RU. So nauseating.

Okay, let's get back to reality. Two things.

State holds monopoly of currency. Meaning if it wants to, it can print monopoly money as long there is ink and paper in

Joke is "people deciphered the message".
More correct translation from RU sentence is "you're fucked"

Oh, yeah. Couple of RU news.

1) They started spending money. So 5.7 for dec + 1.5 regional budget + 1.7 jan = 8.9 already. Also spending for Feb seems to be in line with 2025 levels. But will see.

I though I would post most fun ads from Super Bowl.

Truth be told there is little to show. And lot of followed pattern of intentionally cringey like Jeep one.

But this one hit me. That perfectly describes my day.

Russian data suggest COVID deaths added at least 1 million additional pensioner deaths in 2020/2021.

github.com/dkobak/exces...

The effect will fade with time, but the mass deaths probably helped Russian pension finances.

Hopefully new qualifying pensioners in 2026 + weaker economy will hurt.

Another thing I'm excited is for Superbowl commercials. Be warned of lot of posts incoming

Я/мы Машенька (I/We Are Mashenka) is a wild concept for anyone outside RU. But it is happening.

Imagine the absurdity of whole ministry of economy spending so much resources bailing out a bakery.

Sorry, not sorry for calling out RU govt's bluff. They try to tell the world their economy is doing fine while their internal projections tell otherwise.

You're welcome.

Every month The Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-term Forecasting (CMASF) published their projections on different topics. Let me go through the things you are not seeing/understanding.

Ahem... That's how you create banking collapse. Suddenly banks will start demanding loans back.

Will you please think of poor Gaprom, RZD, Rusal, Severstal.
🚨The Russian Central Bank is afraid of a large-scale banking collapse in the near future.

Starting in March, banks must now have assets to cover 100% of loans issued to large indebted companies. They clearly expect a wave of defaults which could render banks insolvent en masse.

Let's read news from RU regions
January 27, 2026 at 6:02 PM
Example on why reading RU news is a challenge to mind.

Up until today I did not know what Tapioca is. And why should I care for amount imported to RU.

You never can be sure, but it seems they are implying imports from China are down 20%.

I did not mention any date (and probably Kommersant/The ware zone might be wrong) because irrelevant for topic. Just pointing out that people figured out the pattern - if anything happens, most likely it will be when markets are closed to prevent panic attacks. Market knows.
January 27, 2026 at 5:04 PM
Alright, let's move further.

In previous episode. Oh, boy, not only did I nail it, it was triple jackpot.

Businesses were freezing their projects en masse. On top we had RU govt cutting down expenses on non war stuff. As bonus froze some of their payments for war stuff. Cherry on top is weather.
Topic for next months - deep freeze.

And second thing, haven't heard any latest news of tea/window time. I feel the time is now.
