People have told me this passage really hit for them, in terms of describing the difficulty of communication when you're autistic. And I really like it as a good sample of my overall prose style.

Yotsuyu silently bristled, eyes snapping back to the present to find Shiina once again. "Well… then I suppose it's best you ask." Her words came out anxious like smeared ink, but Shiina knew to expect that. Mortals could not communicate with each other with the same simple elegance as gods might. Heavenly authority asserted itself unspoken, as straightforward as two blades interposed. But to be mortal was to be imperfect. No two words uttered were alike in shape or meaning, like shards of pottery that could be handled as carefully crafted pieces of artifice or as crude improvised weapons seized in desperation. Shiina got a grip on her words, tightly but shakily.

Starting to write lore docs for my OC's to put on my MCDF folders, just to kill time during maint, and realizing how little I've shown of these in actual gposes/comics. I do have to cut myself some slack though, because I've said time and again some things don't translate well into visual mediums.

Shrike stands in a dimly lit library, vast rows of books on shelves behind him. He gazes up at the rows with a bitter expression, as if the state of the place upsets him or that he's found bitter memories within the endless volumes. Shrike's family, the minor House Marais, were entrusted by Thordan I with the task of maintaining archives of Ishgard's history as well as studying their foes in the Dravanian Hoard. Over centuries, their archives and reputation fell into ill graces. Many saw the archivists as stuck-up, manipulative, and monstrous for their proximity to dragonkind. After House Marais' fall and Shrike's battle with Ishgard, the Marais Archives have fallen into his possession. He guards over them with conviction, but they are a place of complicated feelings for him.
