‘I’m watching Aston Villa in a the quarter finals of the Champions League’ is not something you expect to say when you’ve been following them for 15+ years.

What a buzz.

old Soviet joke for our times:

Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to.

Guy says: “looking for an obituary.”

Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.”

Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

If history keeps echoing then I’m not sure whether we’re currently in 49 BC when Caesar crossed the Rubicon or 45 BC when he won the civil war and was declared dictator for life. If it’s the latter then the good news is that we only have a year left to go. The bad news is that so does the republic.

Jokes aside, it’s uncanny how history echoes - the big conference to decide on one country’s (partial) annexation happens to be Munich again with the big powers not consulting said country’s representatives.

Peace in our time, Sudetenland, and the rest of it.

We know what happened next.
Neville Chamberlain was unjustly denied the Nobel Peace Prize.

I recently bought an electric car. Like millions of others, Musk is the main reason why I got one - he made EVs viable. And like many (likely millions) of others, Musk is the reason the car I bought isn’t a Tesla.

This statement and sentiment isn’t novel, but worth repeating today.
