The Secret Agent kept reminding me of some of Damiano Damiani's political crime thrillers. That's high praise, btw.

Booked online for the cinema this afternoon. No other seats had been sold.
Got to the cinema just as the ads were starting, and there's just one person there - in the seat next to mine, with their coat on my seat.
It was momentarily awkward. But definitely their fault.

Vintage slice of kitchen-sink SF, filmed in and around Todmorden, and a bit weird in a number of ways.

I'd heard of this, but hadn't seen it before. (Hat tip to @stuartmaconie.bsky.social and the Freak Zone)

Reminder for local policy-geek pals that when CFC says "Huddersfield" they mean Kirklees, which is even less of a city by any definition.

Nice to know that Paul Robeson used to knock around my immediate neighbourhood.
For example, here is in March 1939 with mill workers at John Kaye & Sons on Kings Mill Lane. Robeson is on the left and the chap on the right is George W. Brown, the works manager at the mill, who was an old friend of Robeson. During the visit, he sang with the mill girls.

One of those charity shop finds that turns out to be a real delight - the very odd tale of a grotesque city state and its apocalyptic downfall, written by a Bohemian artist with his own illustrations.
Really feels like neighbouring territory to Gormenghast and the Vorrh.

Opening slide of my proposal to rebrand the Midlands as the English Perineum.
Where do the North and South of England begin?

Based on the answers of 46,000 English people about where they live, the southern border of “the North” is a line roughly from Shrewsbury to Grimsby, while the northern border of “the South” is a line roughly from the Severn to Great Yarmouth

Got this for xmas - excellent concise socioeconomic history of C20th coalmining and the lingering effects of its ending.
It focuses on Durham and South Wales but still a lot of detail relevant to Yorks. Still a lot to be angry about.
