Unfortunate downside of Linux is driver support for more esoteric hardware, by which I mean 4K60 capture cards. I had a Live Gamer 4K card and the best I could find was a driver for a similar card on GitHub, but that requires you to compile it yourself and of course it doesn’t compile.

It’s shocking to me that DaVinci Resolve on Linux does not support H264/AAC. That’s gotta be at least 90% of online video. I had to resort to having OBS record using Apple ProRes and whatever the Apple Video Codec was to have Resolve even recognize it as a video/audio file.

I know it shouldn’t be surprising with the advent of the Steam Deck and the work on Proton, but a shocking amount of games in my steam library do actually register as playable under Linux Mint. This transition might be easier than I thought. All that remains is getting used to GIMP and Resolve.

I think it’s finally time to ditch Windows and embrace the Linux life. What’s a good distro for light gaming and occasional tinkering? My only real experience is with Ubuntu a few years ago, and I didn’t really use it seriously. I’ve heard bazzite is a good gaming one but I want some tinker-ability.

I see one video about XCOM Long War in my YouTube feed and I suddenly feel the urge to jump back on the Long War bullshit train again. Didn’t even watch the video, mind you, but the thumbnail alone made me want to do it.

I think what I like about Legends Z-A is that it’s like a more evolved version of a system that I’ve been missing for a long time now: Active Time Battle. I’ve also likened it to Xenoblade, but that’s mostly because of the UI. Without auto-attacks, it’s actually closer to classic Final Fantasy.

Earthbound’s anti-piracy is pretty well known, but if you think about it, they made it so that Giygas actually just wins in the end. It’s a bad ending as the game wipes your save. It’s also the most terrifying anti-piracy screen because the game glitches as you fight Giygas, like he’s taking over.

Ok, Rapha was never this powerful in FFT, so either my build is just godlike, or they buffed Heaven skills to all hell, because each hit she lands does ~300 damage and I think if they actually all landed on target (which also seems more likely in this version) she can easily one-shot major bosses.

Played a bit of the new Pokémon game last night, and it kind of surprised me. I thought I was mostly over Pokémon games since the last non-remake I played all the way through was XY, but ZA’s premise is kind of intriguing with NPCs having their own motivations. I might actually stick with this one.

I can appreciate the FFT remaster making the perfume items gender neutral, but it really fucks with the balance of the game, because now Orlandeau is literally immortal. Not that balance is a huge concern Act 4, but Always Haste, Regen, Reraise, and all sword skills? The only real danger is petrify.

I think what I appreciate most about the FFT remaster is that the QoL changes make it more inviting to anybody I try to recommend this game to. It’s the definitive version by virtue of having the better translated script and no slowdown. The better script and VO work really elevates the experience.

Thanks Microsoft, for finally getting my ass up to cancel my Game Pass subscription. I’ll just buy the few games I want to play when they come out now. I can’t think of a game it introduced me to that I played for more than an hour that I wasn’t planning on buying directly anyway.

Wow, the SFX in the FFT remaster is just… wrong? Why does Thunder sound like what I remember from playing this on ePSXe like 20 years ago? I mean, it’s nostalgic for me for the wrong reasons lol. SFX in general just sounds less punchy than the original.

Maybe it’s just because I played the OG FF Tactics to death, but of the three difficulty settings in the remaster, Knight seems easier than the OG (by removing Counter from monsters for example) while Tactician seems to drop your damage numbers? The damage I’m dealing just feels wrong.

Why do I get the feeling FE Shadows wasn’t originally an FE game and instead they were told to slap FE on the title last second and force a character already designed for Heroes to shill for money? How is Lyn faster than Kurt (you know, the protagonist of Shadows) to make the jump to FEH?
Emblem Hero Corrin: Of Fates from the #FireEmblem Fates and Fire Emblem Engage games and Mythic Hero Lyn: Plains Wind from the Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade and Fire Emblem Shadows games appear Sept. 30, 12 AM PT! #FEHeroes

I ostensibly still like Fire Emblem as a series, but as somebody who doesn’t really like Among Us gameplay, Shadows doesn’t seem like something I’d be interested in, even though I think the art style looks interesting.

Can’t wait to see how bad the battery life on this baby is.

I was sampling some random Genesis/Mega Drive games yesterday and I think this system probably has simultaneously the best and worst sound chip I’ve ever heard. When it works, it fucking jams. When it doesn’t, it is worse than nails on a chalkboard (sometimes literally).

Finally playing a Dragon Quest game for the first time (VIII on the PS2) and I had thought it and Final Fantasy would be fairly similar in terms of difficulty. That turns out to not be the case, because DQ8 is, while not too difficult, actually does require some strategy to get through efficiently.

Just finished the first Persona game for the PSP, and it was an enjoyable experience despite how primitive it feels compared to modern games. Still, I think the message it tries to get across is just as relevant today.

That brings my play order for Persona to 5 > 4 Golden > most of 3 Reload > 1.

Maybe it’s finally time to upgrade from my Series 3 watch to the new Series 11. 8 years is a pretty good run for a piece of tech and it’d be nice to have a watch that can consistently last the entire day on a single charge.

Fire Emblem 7 Remake

It’s time.
Rumor: SwitchForce says the Nintendo Direct next week will have three games with "7" in it.

Final Fantasy VII Intergrade release date is an obvious prediction.
