Stannis Baratheon's #1 shooter. Lover of the macabre, searcher after horror. Cinephile; Norman Taurog's camera never falters. Stoogeposting. Any/all. 30

You need to be Victorianmaxxing. You need to be going Edwardian mode. Can't really go wrong with this selection if chills and thrills and more than a century of remove is what you're after

Clark Ashton Smith might have written some of the earliest parodies of cosmic horror, specifically. "The Door to Saturn" and "The Seven Geases" are both essentially stories about how the blasphemous abnormalities at the root of creation are just kind of lazy assholes

Based on his first two (real) albums I get the impression Kid Rock considered himself a Democrat then, or at least coded himself as one. Wonder when exactly you could pinpoint his right wing turn. Another 9/11 casualty?

Kid Rock disses Radiohead pretty hard on his album Cocky, so I fear I have no choice but to give it positive marks

Once has a disagreement with my conservative uncle about what the good Staind songs were—my example of a good Staind song was "Mudshovel", whilst he liked the moaning ballads.

From the outside I think the main appeal of a romantic relationship would be that you always have somebody to watch movies and tv with, which is probably one major reason why I haven't really been in a serious one

I'm the rare "Star Wars diehard as a kid, Star Trek diehard as an adult" person, and I've only seen TOS at that

Only one more 2001 nu metal album I intend to sample: Vanilla Ice's

Normally I'm not someone who thinks lyrics make or break a song (I don't care) but Styx probably should have given "Come Sail Away" a couple more passes

Listening to: Setting Sons by The Jam, in my car on the way to work. Will this be the one that budges me from considering them almost unbelievably middling?

3 Feet High and Rising would be vying with Odelay and The Bends for my least favorite bracket winner let's send it packing

Going viral on twitter fucking sucks I expressed my bafflement that The Wizard of fucking Oz has enough low ratings as to be stuck at a 3.9 (this is, to be clear, the only time I have ever and will ever get irritated about a LB average) and you'll never believe what the replies are

Day 48
"Bow & Creak" by Laura Cannell (2023, UK)
ISC: 👍

I was feeling pretty lousy the other night and listening to this entire thing made me feel like I had achieved some sort of spiritual catharsis, which is all a godless individual can ask of music really

When I was a kid I told my mom I thought the Beatles were gay based on the couple of greatest hits CDs worth of stuff I'd heard and my nu-metal guy gen X step-dad got mad at me

Part of the problem with considering butt rock a musical category with definable characteristics, as opposed to merely a derogatory cultural appellation intended to define the boundaries of taste, while also thinking it's still kind of the latter, is some bands defy the former but not the latter

I think we get the winner more or less right about half the time (Fear of a Black Planet, Loveless, 36 Chambers, Illmatic, Aeroplane, When the Pawn), Paul's Boutique is the correct answer this time imo
