Art, science and the modern antiquarian. Ronald Hutton once said that I seemed like an "interesting sort of fellow". A manifestation of Stu Pond.

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Elite was released (circa) 41 years ago today!

This space trading open world game is considered to be the forerunner of many modern games, as well as being an important milestone in the history of space sci-fi.

Beer brick. Put a can of @redwillowbrewery.bsky.social's rather fine Keller Bier in the freezer to chill last night then promptly forgot about it until this morning. It's thawing now. Oops!

Great piece on Moviedrome, with interviews with Alex Cox and Nick Freand Jones. Such a brilliant series, much missed. Wish the BBC had shows like this on now.

Listening to @maryannehobbs.bsky.social as I work. For a synesthete such as I, that means a head filled with colours and movement as synapses are fired in unique combinations. Her show is a gift. @coseyfannitutti.bsky.social talking so beautifully about White Rabbit brought a tear to my eye.

@cerysmatthews.bsky.social *I think* Cuillin is pronounced 'coolin', and when seen they are not forgotten. From Elgol they are breathtaking. @duncanchisholm.bsky.social wrote this piece about the Cuillin and it is the most profoundly beautiful tune.

All they care about is money. Profit. Accruing wealth. Nothing else has any intrinsic value. They eschew morality and lack a philosophical framework to guide them. Their inner selves are empty and shallow, bereft of compassion or humility. They are pitiless and lost, attracted to the dark.

Stone the crows. How much does @cheshire-east.bsky.social hate Macclesfield? Evening parking charges are not going to help the town in any way.

What the heck is controversial about heat pumps? I guess "areas of public controversy" mean subjects like climate change perhaps? Sorry to say the @evanhd.bsky.social, the BBC is in the control of people not working in it's own or our own interests, or those of our democracy and free speech.
Sad news about the Happy Heat Pump Podcast.

Sorry to say, that after about 20 episodes, we’re drawing it to a close at the request of the BBC which worries it may be seen as steering into areas of public controversy.

Labour have chosen to make poor people poorer rather than
- Rejoin the European Union
- Stray from arbitrary fiscal rules
- Tax the inconceivably wealthy
- Borrow to invest in broken public services*

*National debt is at 95.5% of GDP. In 1947 when the NHS was established, it was 238%.

The news has been more than a bit grim of late, so hooray for @carbonbrief.org providing some genuine and really meaningful **good** news: the UK's carbon emissions in 2024 were the lowest since 1872, because demand for fossil fuels just keeps decreasing.
