It always takes me a split-second to figure out if the "MTG" people are moaning about in my feed is Magic the Gathering or Marjorie Taylor Greene.

"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

See, the way that we "work collectively" is by electing people to represent us. Other ways of "working collectively" tend to be more chaotic, and involve guillotines.
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

Let me get this right… a sufficient number Senate Democrats appear to be willing to reopen government to alleviate air travel for upper & upper-middle income people at the expense of access to healthcare for lower income people. Yes?

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

And now you all understand why Schumer made that offer publicly. They all knew this was going to be the GOP response. It's making them own the shutdown even more, just as air travel cuts are being made.

If you're at the grocery store, Pink Lady, SweeTango/Minneiska, or Cosmic Crisp are good bets. SweeTango & Cosmic Crisp were bred specifically to be "Honeycrisp but with the will to live."

Other ones are good too! Those are just the 3 I've had the best luck with here in eastern NC.
So, what is a good substitute for Honeycrisps if we’re south?

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

My wife had already gone to bed, and I apologized for waking her, explaining that I had stayed up watching the news.

Her instant, instinctive response was a sympathetic “oh no.”

I cannot explain how it felt to be able to say “nono, it was good. It was all SO good.”

It didn't matter.

Let his victory in the face of Big Money serve as a reminder that people have the power.

I am so flabbergasted & tearful & grateful & JUST REALLY EMOTIONAL over everything that’s happened around this so-special pup since this saga started on…good god, how was it only Wednesday morning?

That it has meant as much to so many of you fills me up to the brim.

I am bemused that my assurance that a coworker didn’t use AI to create this slop of a presentation is that the AI detectors are blocked as well at work, and they aren’t savvy enough to go around them.

(This isn't legal advice. The whole point is to NOT need me. Also, if you're a person who won't suffer any harm from going to a protest no matter what you do, congratulations! Most people aren't so privileged, and stop thinking you're the default.)

In the Bible, 1 Kings 3:16–28, two mothers go before King Solomon claiming that a surviving child was their child.

Solomon called for the child to be cut in half. One mother agreed, the other was willing to give up her baby so that it could live.

This is about the potential government shutdown.
