This morning Green MPs attended a critical briefing on the climate and nature crisis.

Climate breakdown threatens our food supply, health and national security but an alternative future is still possible.

Our remembrance is a pledge to see the humanity in one another, to challenge the call to arms, and to strive for a world where such pity is no longer necessary.

Lest we forget.

My thoughts are with all affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and Cuba, and with their loved ones, including countless British families.

With climate breakdown advancing, storms like this will only become more frequent. We must act urgently to prevent further catastrophes.

We should be talking about the statistics, published by Shelter, showing UK child poverty and homelessness are at the highest levels since records began.

Instead, the government and media are performatively complaining about a decision to ban Israeli football hooligans from an Aston Villa match.

We stand with the Jewish community and everyone affected by the horrific attack at the synagogue in Manchester today.

Zack Polanski: “We've seen rising antisemitism for years, as well as rising hate crime more generally. This is about civil society, democracy, and bringing people together.”

We are saddened and appalled by the violent attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue, and our thoughts are with all those affected, the Jewish community, and the emergency services responding to the incident.

Tonight at sundown marks the beginning of Yom Kippur, the day of atonement and the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

To all observing, may this solemn day of fasting, prayer, and reflection be meaningful.

The scenes on our streets are shameful consequences of decades of austerity - government after government fanning the flames of anti migration instead of tackling inequality.

We can & must make different choices. Solidarity to all communities under attack. We stand together.

Anyone still insisting there's no Labour "right wing"?

They've abandoned the working class, ethnic & LGBTQ+ minorities, Remainers, environmentalists, and they're throwing vulnerable children, OAPs, and the sick to the wolves...

While being performatively racist for people who'll never vote Labour.

The climate denialism of Starmer, Reform and the other "stop the boats" migrant scapegoaters is going to exacerbate the refugee crisis.

While they demonise refugees arriving today, their refusal to act on the climate crisis guarantees more displacement tomorrow.

Children in Oldham face poorer education outcomes, earn less, and die younger than those down the road in Saddleworth.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

We can provide everyone with the support and opportunities they deserve; all we need is a government that cares.

'It's like two worlds, everyone notices it'
In statistics, Saddleworth and Oldham are worlds apart. But are they really so very different?
