On my newly configured Debian box, I installed the sendmail system because I'm a dork. I also asked it to forward root's emails to my account.

And what do you know, apparently systemd emails root about drives wearing out.

In other news, one of my drives is wearing out.

Fun, I'll play too. In the order I thought of them:

Define your music taste in eight artists:

Pink Floyd
Dire Straits
Sarah McLachlan
Tara Maclean
Pat Benatar
Enigma
Queensryche
Alice in Chains

I'm sure I'll remember some super-relevant artist once I post this, but....
Okay, I'll play:

Credence
Rush
Dead Can Dance
Queen
The Police
The Eagles
Adam Ant
U2
Define your music taste in eight artists:

The Killers
The Beastie Boys
Paramore
Tyler, The Creator
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
Scene Queen
Chappell Roan
My Chemical Romance

Apparently, KDE and Google aren't getting along (in terms of authorization protocols), which is inconvenient for me.
So do I change desktops, or give up on Google Drive?

Kinda thinking the second one, since Google is not what they once were.

Well, I did it. I'm now typing this message on my new Debian KDE install (using btrfs, which was a bit involved set up). The install did trash my windows boot, but after a lot of googling I got that working again.

Now to live with this new system for a while to see if I made the right choice.

I tried a livecd (well, "live ventoy") boot of Debian with KDE/Wayland last night, and it worked perfectly.

I could access my various audio devices and network resources, as well as my NTFS drives without any special tweaks.

Looks like a winner. Now to back up data and steel my resolve.

With the pending demise of Win10, and me stuck with a computer that doesn't support TPM-2, I've been auditioning *nix distros.

I've found that while FreeBSD makes my heart happy, and Linux Mint-Debian feels good, Debian KDE fits what I want to use this machine for the best.

Any of my gamedev friends looking for some sound designers, allow me to introduce Emily.
what's next? I don't really know yet! my ideal "next gig" would be a full time sound design position on a AAA team, but the games industry is in a weird spot right now and I'm keeping an open mind. if you know of any teams in imminent need of a reliable sound designer, i'd love to hear about them.

Surely nobody is actually surprised by this "Epstein and DJT" thing, right?

Surely they were all just pretending they didn't know before, and now that the cat's out of the bag, they're pretending to be surprised, right?

Surely?

This is some bullshit. It had much higher ratings than any other fantasy series to-date, even beating out Rings of Power - which is also on Amazon.

Gotta say, not super happy with "Yellowjackets" season 3.

Ok, that's just funny, and as I've stated on other platforms, #lolmeansshare. No reason not to apply that rule on bsky, too.

I personally discovered Bandcamp during the pandemic, and they are a great source of digital and physical music. Even if you listen to your favorites on other streaming services, consider grabbing the digital version of the music you love the most.
I'm not on twitter anymore, but this tweet from 2 years ago is sadly more accurate than ever

If you have Netflix and any love for murder mysteries in the vein of "Knives Out", you owe it to yourself to watch the recently released series, "The Residence".

I'm not going to say much about it other than it's exceedingly clever, entertaining, and well executed.

20 degrees Fahrenheit and snowing. This is becoming the normal mid-February for Austin, I guess.

If, like me, you spent the late 80's trying to make mandelbrot generators that didn't suck on your 80's computer, you might be interested in Jim's extension of the idea.
Wanted to see if I could derive the math for a multibrot on my own. z -> z^p + c

A friend is looking for work. If you have any, please ping him.
My contract at Bluepoint Games is ending later this month, so I am on the hunt for new Senior Animator opportunities, preferably remote. Please keep me in mind and hit me up if you or your studio have any openings!

Apparently, my LG TV's IP channels have a "star trek" channel that just plays ST all day. Sure, I could do the same thing on my Paramount+ stream, but somehow this feels different, and is not a disagreeable soundtrack for working on gaming miniatures.

I know it's been a few hundred years, and many US citizens didn't pay much attention in history class, but I suspect the US going to war with Canada (even a trade war) won't end the way DJT thinks it will.

Nice to see so many states ceding the religious education of their children to lay people employed by the government.

(And no, I do not actually consider this "nice".)

I haven't double-checked George's numbers on this, but given what we know about our immigration system's deliberate backlogging, it feels right.
If Trump wants to deport undocumented migrants, they will still need a hearing before an immigration judge.

The next available final hearing date, based on current backlog of 1,478,623 asylum cases pending, is in 2029—after Trump has left office.

They haven’t though this through. Shocking.
