I'm always fascinated by how well ambient occlusion works. There's no lights used for this render, just random rays cast from the surface to see if they hit anything near by or not.

I've written a lot of ray tracers over the years in a lot of different languages. My dumbest was when I wrote a ray tracer that ran in the C++ compiler using template metaprogramming. It took nearly 30 minutes to compile. #Raytracer #DumbCodingStunt

I once had a coworker talk about the classes he took at MIT and I lamented to him how I wished I had gone to MIT instead of a state school. He looked me in the eyes and said that it didn't really matter because we all ended up at the same company anyway.
