The Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 was designed to protect Black Americans. This week, it was used to end a Black scholarship at UCSD that aimed to bolster the campus’s small Black student population. Moments like these remind us why the fight for equity must go on.

The results are clear and the momentum is real. The people have spoken. They are rejecting division and chaos. They are choosing decency, democracy, and a better future. Together, we're moving forward.
Democrats didn’t just rebound. They dominated.

There is strength and power in the ballot. Seeing record turnout in New York, Virginia, New Jersey, and even Georgia is a powerful and inspiring reminder that when people show up, democracy thrives.

My father said that power without love is reckless. Threatening food aid for 42 million Americans is exactly that, especially as the holiday season approaches. We must call our leaders to a higher moral ground.

Every vote is a voice, and today, every voice matters. Show up, speak out, and shape the future. 🗳️

#OTD in 1956 my father delivered “Paul’s Letter to American Christians” at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. He spoke on the greed of capitalism and the need to embrace love and a brotherhood.
HISTORY ON REPEAT🔁: Much like the Shelby v. Holder decision in 2013, we're witnessing another huge attack on the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

We must do all that we can to raise our voices and protect our right to access the ballot.

During #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, this Native parable reminds us that we choose the wolf we feed. Every act of kindness, hope, and love strengthens the good within.

Real connection starts when we stop talking and start listening.

@frost.house.gov learned this early, not by giving speeches, but by knocking on doors to understand.

Listening is how we build trust, respect, and real change.

In an era when history is being whitewashed, we have a responsibility to speak out. We have a moral duty to teach our shared past and embody the principles of peace, love, and equality.

On this day in 1879, the first federal Native American boarding school opened in Pennsylvania, marking the start of decades of forced assimilation and trauma for Native children. As we honor #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, we remember and confront this history.

No one makes change in the same way, but everyone can choose love. Dad reminds us:

“Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love. Love is not emotional bash; it is not empty sentimentalism. It is the active outpouring of one’s whole being into the being of another.”

Dad believed deeply in the interconnected struggle for justice across race, origin & nation. In the '50s, he stood w/ the Poarch Band of Creek Indians as they fought for equal access to education & later condemned the genocide of Indigenous peoples as “national policy.” #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth

Impact at scale: our learning tools and resources are reaching classrooms in 150 countries, helping students to rise as leaders and changemakers in their communities. #RealizeTheDream

#OTD in 1967, Dad and Rev. Abernathy flew from Atlanta to Birmingham to serve five-day jail sentences for contempt of court. Originally stemming from their 1963 protests challenging segregation. In “The Attack on the First Amendment,” Dad said:
Congratulations to former My Legacy Podcast guest and author of the The 1619 Project @nhannahjones.bsky.social on opening North Star Books + Bar! Now more than ever, we need spaces for Black writers to be in community and create amongst one another.

Supporting local museums matters more than ever. At the Museum of Contemporary Art in LA, a new exhibit turns decommissioned Confederate monuments into powerful works of art that critically engage historical memory and identity with current events.

The devastation from Hurricane Melissa is heartbreaking. The scenes emerging from Jamaica show the sheer scale of destruction and suffering. We are praying for everyone across the Caribbean who has faced loss and destruction as communities begin the road to recovery.

We must celebrate the young people transforming our generation. My father was only 27 when he led the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Today, rising young leaders—known and unknown—are building the Beloved Community every day, creating opportunity, justice, and equity for all.

Dad said, “Give us the ballot.” Today we celebrate #VoteEarlyDay because it ensures that long lines at the polls & unclear election laws can’t deter you from voting.

Not everyone can lead in the same way—but everyone can lead. Dad reminds us:

“Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway, just be a trail. If you can’t be a sun, be a star. For it isn’t by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are.”

Looking back on our landmark conference with @mifamiliavota.bsky.social last October, where we brought together leading voices in the modern civil rights movement to advance peace and justice, defend voting rights, and inspire students and young changemakers to build the #BelovedCommunity.

Wherever you're planted, build community. Whenever you feel defeated, remind yourself of the love you give and receive. You are not alone.

“Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Anne Braden reminds us that change doesn’t come from guilt; it comes from imagining a better world. The meaning of life is in the struggle to make that vision real, even when we don't see the fruit of our labor.

You bring joy and light into every room (and usually a little mischief too). Watching you lead with strength, laugh with abandon, and love with your whole heart is one of life’s greatest gifts.
