If you are trying to compare SARS-CoV-2 to other viruses, you shouldn't. Al-Aly was skeptical of his own data. That one virus can cause this much mayhem all over the body. He kept running the data, and it always came back the same.

Highlights • COVID-19 research could be applicable to and inform on other post-viral syndromes and respiratory illnesses. • Histopathological evidence of increased collagen deposition, abnormal CMR findings and upregulated extracellular matrix remodelling related pathways suggests that systemic, and vascular inflammation, may contribute to symptom burden in post-COVID-19 syndromes. • Identification of candidate target pathways remains a challenge in myocarditis patients due to the complexity of presentation and lack of prospective tissue collection. • Trials are needed to provide clinical and scientific evidence to inform treatment decisions in post-COVID-19 syndromes.

As in Tennessee, this ban does not apply to cis children, because the drugs themselves are not a safety hazard. The only thing at risk is a society’s discomfort with allowing young people to make their own decisions about their own bodies.

The preliminary sequence from the H5N1 human case in British Columbia has been posted and it is not good news. The virus potentially has a quasispecies at HA residue 226 (H3 numbering). This is bad news because we know that mutations at residue 226 can increase binding to human receptors. 1/

I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time - when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness. The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30-second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.
