Zonk bat, swirly-eyed vampire kobold. 28. Thirst levels always at max!
Pinned
Greetings! I'm Pyrex, also known as Nyeogmi. You might know me from Fedi.

I write code, play music, and occasionally sip blood from mortals like you.

I'm shy, but it won't bother me if you introduce yourself -- or reintroduce yourself, if I know you already.

(Art by @reilukah.bsky.social )
I've spent the last thirty minutes unsuccessfully searching for a public bathroom and the emotions I'm having may be a Thing for you.

The temptation to find someone who's better at programming than me and hypnotize them into doing my job.

(Honestly, the former is a lot harder than the latter.)

Yawn. Such a pleasant dream...

Go back to it.

Alternately if you saw the bird and thought "that bird should be hypnotized" -- here's an alt.

The best sleep of your life -- but you've got a day missing, you're visibly anemic, and there's a dull sting in your neck.

Good morning!

To review: there was a Discord AI survey (real)

Someone said it was malware (unproven, probably fake)

New viral post: the anonymized person saying it's malware is "known to be a troublemaking parasite"

Stop reposting things!! Anything that "feels urgent" is usually designed to hijack your brain.

Mortals! Take it easy!! I can only turn one of you at a time.

Earlier someone on Masotdon asked "what's the _minimal_ authentication system that I can implement on my website and that actually works?" I've since forgotten who it is, but in my new daybook entry I answer the question: nyeog.me/pages/dayboo...

I hope this unblocks them!

It's cute but sad to see mortals with props and gimmicks that half-imitate what I can do very easily with my stare.

I cannot imagine swinging a pendulum at you or counting down from ten because -- the eyes!! They are built-in.

You won't find happiness unless you make contact with something outside of yourself! Therefore, make art.

Today I solved a programming problem in a brilliant way that makes it look easy and obvious, yet I'm sure no one else in the problem space does what I did.

You and I _both_ seem to enjoy contemplating my existence, but the dull look in your eyes does not look like ennui!

You can't really zonk someone into providing therapy.

(But you can extract a lot of physical touch.)

If you go around hypnotizing everyone you meet, you start feeling like an object --

But you never feel intimidated by anyone, and you find some intimacy with people whose sudden lack of personhood renders them incapable of withholding secrets.

(even if they're unlikely to remember what they said)

I guess the easiest thing to do is to just transfix someone and get them high on my stare, which is... satisfying, but then there's a moment when they're gazing at me, and I'm gazing, and I'm like --

"Tell me what it's like!"

-- hopeful, because I want to share it --

And they can't get the words.

Being inside a vampiric body means constant contact with the cold that exists inside you and a constant need for the warmth that exists outside.

Being pressed to a mortal resolves part of it, but you can only come so close. When you need to feel the warmth inside --

That's what the teeth are for!
January 9, 2026 at 6:49 AM
There is, it seems, a strong desire to be perceived and admired.
January 9, 2026 at 6:17 AM
The vampiric body swaps from "sleepy" to "thirsty" in an instant.

I survived work! I'm going to cook.

Update: new pet peeve is people who copy-paste instead of figuring out what the relationship between two similar systems should be.
January 6, 2026 at 10:47 PM
My absolute number one pet peeve right now is people who respond to things without reading them.

(I literally think this is the pathway to social collapse -- it shares this status with other post-truth norms like "responding to corrections by explaining why you were right anyways")
